'05 VA RB Darrieus Ramsey

I just got around to watching his videos ... nice! Darrieus has obvious speed, but it is good to see that he is a polished runner and doesn't rely on his speed alone. He reads and sets up his blocks well and has good cut back ability, and then hits the hole HARD and accelerates quickly. Has a bit of power for a small back. Best of all, he runs with confidence (something which we didn't see a whole lot of last year from OSU's backs). I hope that he camps at OSU - I'd like the staff to see him in person.

Best of luck at the state track tournament.

3 More days and Darrieus would be a soph.. he doesn't turn 17 until the end of Aug, so he has a lot of growth potential. That's one of the issues with recruiting today....it's become so competitive, schools are going deeper and deeper into the class years and expecting kids to be at full blossom way before their time. With that kind of speed and a 5'10.5 frame, he's perfect for a DB or scatback when he reaches 180lbs... The one thing that the Big -10 needs is speed and he has lots of it....

When I read that Arkansas...the first thing I did was write the editor to have that changed... That should have read Bama. They mutually impressed each other during his camp visit. His luv for OSU is no less, unfortunately, OSU having a light recruiting year doesn't appear to have the space for him. I think if OSU had a full boat year, Darrieus would have had a chance on their board. We discussed camping their, but had to weigh in our decision based his chances of future offers. Darrieus could have been a great add to OSU, but it doesn't appear that they have the room for out of state sleepers this year. OSU was one of the first schools to start contacting Darrieus... What do you guys think?

I think that sounds about right, DB. Another problem is how loaded we already are in the secondary and the fact we already have a verbal from the #1 corner in Ohio(Jamario O'Neal) and will probably only take one more. It's unfortunate. Darrieus really can't go wrong with the other schools on his list. I don't think anyone can blame you guys for not camping in Columbus. I sure hope you keep us updated no matter where Darrieus ends up. I'll be rooting for him even if his team ends up playing the Buckeyes down the road. I'll just hope he has a great game... in a losing effort

Thanks for the support, you guys have been great and as always, I'll keep you posted on his progress. He's pretty much impressed at both camps and has been shutting down all comers from his DB position. He ran a solid 4.4 on the slow next-turf at Bama and a 4.5 at MD on an even slower slippery turf. Their were a lot of other schools on board at the MD camp that approached him wth comments on his abilities, so keep your fingers crossed.

But as you mentioned, if he ends up at Bama, they will more than likely face each other in the future...:wink2:

OSU is loaded at corner, but has offered only one in-state prospect (O'Neal, #2 CB nationally, who has committed), and has a decent chance at only one OOS star (Justin King, #1 CB nationally, from Pittsburgh, who has the Bucks in his solid top 5). IMO, Darrieus has at least as much chance for an offer as any other currently un-offered CB. Unfortunately, that chance is probably pretty slim now, and would disappear completely if King would commit.

Darrieus has skills and will end up with some good offers, but if he is interested in OSU, then he should keep trying to earn one from the Buckeyes. It's a long way to Signing Day, and things may change....

UNC started writing a few weeks ago and he was invited to their Blue Chip Day....he also did well at their one day Sr. camp... so right now, most schools want to evaluate him on the field in a game situation... He's shinned on film and in camp.....so if it comes down to watching him play, it will be a shoe in....but who first? Delaware and the in-state 1-AA schools all want him, they assume he's D-1 and hope to get him as a miss... With Darrieus' talents, I didn't think it would take this long to penetrate the D-1 wall, but I'm learning the hard way that it's a long process and most kids were already being evaluated during their Jr. seasons...That's the price of Darrieus' not attending camp between his Soph and Jr. season...especially since he was a 3 year starter and has tons of soph highlights as well......

But he will more than likely end up at Bama..."Good things happen to good players" :wink2:
