'05 TX RB James Aston (former OSU walk-on; transferred to Texas State)

I don't know if it would, his family is all aggy. I can let that slide though, he didn't go there. My family is all aggy too, we all have our faults

Still would be a kid from Texas on Ohio State scoring a TD against Texas. That would be like a kid from Ohio on Texas scoring a TD against us. Do you even have any Ohio kids on your roster?

I don't think that we have any ohio kids, but I still don't find the irony in having a texas kid score on us, There are too many texas kids out of state that allready do so, not the least of which is Adrian Peterson, Then there was El Roberson III and so on and so forth. Its not like we are arkansas.

yes but it's not like Ohio and Texas are neighbors or play often.

There was a feature on Aston in a paper called the "Katy Courier" yesterday. Nothing really new. A lot of talk about the effort it will take to play football and wrestle at the college level. I didn't realize Ohio State's wresting coach, Russ Hellickson, wrestled and played football in college for Wisconsin. Sounds like this really influenced Aston to OSU because he knew the coach would understand and accommodate his desire to play both sports. The article also stated that Aston was offered a football scholarship by Auburn. However, Auburn doesn't have a wrestling team.

here are some good quotes from that article

"All colleges were willing to let me wrestle and play football, but Ohio State encouraged it," Aston said.

"I want good playing time," Aston said. "I think I can make some good plays for Ohio State this year."

Aston led the Tigers to the 2003 5A Division II state title and rushed for over 2,000 yards in both 2003 and 2004, while scoring 45 touchdowns in those two seasons. He finished his high school football career with a 298-yard performance in a playoff loss to Clear Lake and was named the Offensive Player of the Year by the Touchdown Club of Houston.

a Texas fans opinion...

The guy is an excellent athlete, though small-5'7".As a walk-on he is a steal. He's a wrestler, so there is a lot of quickness there. I'm sure he'll get a look as a punt returner and perhaps you can hide him behind one of those big O-Lineman with wraparound draws and delays.

From talking on the Texas board, I've come across some people that knew of Aston from high school football. Here is a quote that was shared with me regarding him. I don't think he'll see much time if any at punt returner, but maybe he will be a change of pace type of guy. Wish him the best of luck.

Texas has 7 kids on their roster from outside the state and only one of those is from East of the Mississippi (second team punter from Georgia).

In regards to Aston, if I understand correctly once he steps on the field OSU has to give him a football scholllie. I would be very surprised to see them take that step until he proves he is able to contribute beyond a down or two.

Agreed. I'd imagine he'd have to make the two deep at running back to see action and be given a football schollie. Gonna be hard to beat both Haw and Mo Wells this year, and it won't look any easier once C. Wells comes into town next season.
