Elijiah Hodge has promised three schools a visit (tOSU, Iowa-brother goes there and NCST). tOSU was just at his school Monday (sounds like Buckeye coaches toured S. Florida schools this week). Obviously Miami is also in the mix.

27 tackles, 3 forced fumbles and a sack in the first two games

He has 87 offers!!!! His top seven are Miami (favorite), Oklahoma, ND, LSU, Ohio State, Auburn and Florida.

He has officially visited OU (for now No. 2 on his favorites) and will see Miami (No.1) and ND. The last two visits have not been announced.

A long shot but at least he told scUM he wasn't interested (they offered). That has to count for something. :scum4:

A look at some area players who are being recruited:

Northeast linebacker Demetri Stewart (6-3, 199) has claimed 77 official offers since Miami first offered back in January without even watching him play the position. In addition to the Hurricanes, Auburn, LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Ohio State remain high on Stewart's list.

Another hot Broward prospect is Dillard linebacker Elijah Hodge. The 6-0, 200-pounder has received offers from Iowa (where brother Abdul stars), North Carolina State, Ohio State, Pittsburgh and Rutgers. While Miami hasn't offered, many believe he would commit to the Hurricanes if they do.

Ely two-way lineman Ronnie Wilson (6-3, 330), who will graduate in January, has been offered scholarships by Florida, LSU, North Carolina State, Ohio State, Pittsburgh and Oklahoma. Miami remains in the hunt but haven't offered.

Ely tight end/defensive end Michael Holton (6-4, 220) has received offers from Indiana, Central Florida and Auburn. He also likes Clemson and Florida.

Plantation defensive lineman Jeffrey Owens (6-2, 280) has been impressive, and offers from Miami, FSU, Georgia, North Carolina State and Oklahoma show why he will be a major catch.

For five months, I have been saying that Deerfield linebacker Jarvis Hicks (6-1, 195) is looking hard at Florida. The Gators were on him early in spring with hopes of bringing him in to play safety. While Florida and Auburn are the only schools to offer, North Carolina State, Oklahoma, Southern Cal and South Florida remain in the picture.

Boynton Beach linebacker Baxter Grisby (6-1, 220) has also enjoyed a busy fall with an offer from Pittsburgh, but interest is coming from Miami, Bowling Green and Minnesota as well.

Pahokee's nationally rated running back Antone Smith (5-8, 178), my top runner in the state, has also had to screen calls over the past few months so he can concentrate on his senior season.

Smith has offers from Miami, Florida, FSU, LSU, North Carolina State and Rutgers, where he was the star of the camp this past summer.

While most have felt that Glades Central receiver Jessie Hester Jr. would wind up at FSU, where his father was a standout, the 6-0, 163-pounder has not been offered a ride by the Seminoles, leaving Miami as the leader with Iowa, Georgia, North Carolina State and Maryland as the other schools who remain in the hunt.

Hester's teammate, Tommy Duhart (6-3, 255), is also a hot recruit with an offer from Notre Dame, and schools such as Florida, Miami, Pittsburgh, Nebraska, North Carolina and North Carolina keeping an eye out.

Another player who has been receiving plenty of attention is Jupiter defensive end Courtney Harris. The 6-3, 240-pounder has attracted the attention of Miami, Florida, FSU, Minnesota, Ohio State, Michigan, LSU and North Carolina State.

Jupiter's Harris gives UM the nod

For Jupiter defensive end Courtney Harris, it was all about getting it over with.

Everything was becoming overwhelming. The phone calls. The letters. The inquiries.

So, on Monday, Harris put an end to all the speculation when he gave an oral commitment to play next season at UM.

"It's been bugging me for a while," Harris said. "I figured if I wouldn't do it now, when would I do it? I just went ahead and made the big decision."

The recruiting service Rivals.- com ranks the 6-foot-4, 230-pound Harris as the fifth-best weakside defensive end prospect in the country. He leads Jupiter in tackles, tackles for losses and sacks despite facing double teams most of the game.

"He's got to a point where he wants to focus on other things," Jupiter coach Charlie Persson said. "He's got some tests coming up and he wanted to put all this recruiting stuff behind him and be able to focus on that."

Harris, who was being recruited by several major programs, said he based his decision on UM's location and its small enrollment. He is the most sought-after player from Jupiter since Craig Page in 1993. Page played at Georgia Tech, becoming an All-American and NFL player. Even though oral commitments are non-binding, Harris says he will be a member of the Hurricanes team next season.

"It's solid," he said. "I'm not going to change my mind."

Phillips won't rush injury

By Dave Heeren

Randy Phillips watched the movie Friday Night Lights last weekend.

After leaving the theatre, the Glades Central cornerback decided he wouldn't rush back onto the playing field. Phillips, who missed Monday's game against West Boca because of knee and ankle injuries, won't play Friday against Dillard.

Phillips said his decision to sit out was based on seeing the part of the film in which Permian star Boobie Miles returned too soon from an injury that ultimately ended his career.

"After watching Friday Night Lights and seeing what happened to Boobie Miles, I'm just going to take my time coming back," said Phillips, who has committed verbally to Miami. "I don't want to hurt [the knee] even worse, and I have to think about my future."

The 6-foot, 180-pound Phillips, rated the 13th-best defensive back prospect by ESPN.com's Tom Lemming, said he has yet to decide whether he will play next week against Fort Pierce Westwood. There is a chance he won't return until Nov. 5 against Pahokee.

"If I don't play, I'll be rested for Pahokee. I'll be like Superman," Phillips said.
