College football scouts.

Recruiting gurus.

Get ready, the next wave of blue-chippers is here.

More than 300 high school football juniors from across the country showed off their skills Sunday in the Nike-Rivals100.com football training camp at the University of Miami.

Players from 12 states, including Florida, Georgia, Texas, California, New Jersey, Louisiana and North Carolina attended the camp, run by StudentSports.com.

The camp, which is in its seventh year, has featured Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis and Oakland Raiders defensive back Phillip Buchanon, both of whom are UM alumni.

''There were probably a good 30 players here today that probably had drawn no interest from any college before today,'' said StudentSports president Andy Bark. ``By the end of the week, I guarantee you they all will get scholarship offers.''

Players' speeds were tested in the 40-yard dash and 20-yard shuttle run. Vertical leaps were tested as well as strength by the number of bench press repetitions with a weight of 185 pounds.

Naples linebacker Spencer Adkins earned the best overall rating. Adkins ran 40 yards in 4.59 seconds, finished the shuttle in 4.31, benched 35 repetitions and jumped 35.2 inches.

Other top finishers were Plantation offensive tackle Jeff Owens (bench press, 36 repetitions), Pahokee running back Antone Smith (40-yard dash, 4.29 seconds), Melbourne Palm Bay linebacker Neefy Moffet (vertical leap, 39 inches) and Daytona Beach Maitland defensive back Avery Atkins (shuttle, 3.90 seconds).

Gerald Williams lists his top 5 right now as Miami, Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State, and Florida. But he claims that Cryami was his favorite growing up.

Elijiah Hodge just received his first offer from Duke and is not currently listing tOSU as a favorite.

Cinci,

It will effect us a little. It really depends on who gets Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Colier and some other the other active counties. It is to be finalized by the 30th, so I will have a better feeling after we find out who has what areas. I do think this might impact Wells a little as Conley was close to him.

Also, I talked with Hodge and the Dillard coach yesterday. Both will be up for OSU camp.

In late May I will publish a list of who we will have up there.

I'm looking forward to it

Here is a free Insiders article on Adkins

Adkins

Spencer Adkins is one of the top prospects from the Sunshine State this season. The senior to be from Naples, Florida is a super defensive player. Who are his five favorites and can someone steal him away from the Big Three from the state of Florida?

One of the top defensive prospects in the entire nation is Spencer Adkins from Naples, Florida. Adkins, 6-0 and 230 pounds, runs in the 4.5 - 4.6 range and plays defensive end in high school. In college he projects as an outside linebacker right now.

"The colleges (coaches) say I will play linebacker," said Adkins. "I played a little last season and I may stand up more this season. I think it's exciting. I am the type of player that is always playing in the backfield. I am quick off the edge and I have good instincts. I run things down and make plays."

Last season as a junior, Adkins led Naples High School to the state title game before losing to Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland High School. He finished with 10 sacks and 18 tackles for a loss.

"I want 16 sacks and a ring this season."

In terms of recruiting he says that Florida State, Florida, Miami, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Oklahoma, Georgia, Tennessee and LSU have offered him thus far and he likes five right now.

"Florida was the first to offer and the first to call this month. I like Miami, Florida, FSU, LSU and Tennessee.

"I love the aggressive style of Miami and they have such a great tradition. The same can be said for FSU and Florida. LSU is doing something right because they won a championship. Tennessee is a good program too and I feel I can come in and make a difference.

"I am planning a trip to UF this summer and I am hoping to make it to Miami and Florida State."

So what will it take to sign Mr. Adkins and will he stay in-state?

"I want to go somewhere where I feel comfortable but I also want to stay close to home. I would like to play early and that will be a factor. I am going to try and keep an open mind but I would like to stay in Florida."

Adkins is very strong, bench pressing 380, squatting 505 and power cleaning 320. He also carries a 3.3 GPA and has already scored a 850 SAT.

HH- hopefully we can get him up to camp and change that top 5- He sounds like a great athlete- As mentioned on another thread he had the highest SPARQ rating of anyone that has tested at any NIKE camp this SPring.

One of the most physically impressive big men in the entire country. Played mostly tight end as a junior, but will also log time at defensive end as a senior. He prefers to play on the defensive side of the ball. Competes in basketball and track including his team's 4x100 relay... particularly impressive when one considers his school and area.
