'05 PA LB Andre Mathis (Tennessee signee)

I don't think that anyone would be surprised with a Mathis verbal to UT.

I think that Rico is another story. This is a guy that Buckeye fans feel that they have a legitimate shot at, so to come on and make a definitive "he's not coming" statement is going to ruffle some feathers.

Is your gut often right or wrong, by the way?

mathis listed ut as his favorite after his msu visit but before his ut and osu visits. so i dont think anyone should be surprised at his going to ut.

mccoy has always had osu as his co-leader, or outright leader. the appeal of his ut visit will fade, and he will get an in-home with JT (fulmer already used his up) and he will become a buckeye.

for the poster who said he has a gut feeling:

i have had those as well. but i have learned that my gut is only accurate in predicting two things: the need for intake and the need to output.

Tressel and Fulmer are scheduled to have in-home visits today according to the last update.... from Gary Housteau: "I've got a tough decision on my hands," said McCoy who will host both coaching staffs in-home on Tuesday. "Yes I do!"
I hope he is a Buckeye, but every year we seem to lose out in the end like this!

If Fulmer was at his house waiting for him upon his return from his tOSU visit, how can he still have an in-home visit scheduled? I would think any contact on at a recruit's house [except phone/mail] would be considered an in-home.

All the update says is both staffs will be visiting McCoy this week. It never said Fulmer was visiting and he shouldn't be considering he was at his house after his Buckeye official. If Tressel has yet to use his in home with Rico you have to think advantage Ohio State.

Andre Mathis had things narrowed down between the Volunteers and Buckeyes. Well, he made his decision and this four-star linebacker is headed to Tennessee.

Erie (Pa.) Cathedral Prep four-star linebacker Andre Mathis (6-2, 225, 4.6) has decided to announce his verbal commitment to attend the University of Tennessee. After returning home from his official visit, Mathis decided the opportunity was to good to pass up.

“I called Coach Jimmy Ray Stephens last night and told him I was committing to Tennessee,” Mathis said. “I just felt real comfortable down there, the players were real cool, and I felt at home.”

Playing time was a big issue with the No. 21 rated linebacker in the country by Scout.com. It turned out to be the determining factor of why he chose the Volunteers over Ohio State.

“They said I would get to play early, if not at linebacker then definitely on special teams,” said Mathis. Mathis and his father are very close. A few people figured distance might play a factor in Mathis’ decision.
“He’ll be able to fly down to my games."

In an ironic twist last night, one hour after he had made his decision, Florida called and offered him a scholarship and a chance for an official visit. Mathis had been mentioning an interest in Florida, although they had never officially offered. The late pitch was not enough to sway Mathis.

“I told them I’m done, and I’m going to Tennessee.
