'05 OH DL Antwon Hight (Akron signee)

I'm not sure Height understands what it takes to qualify. #1. You need to complete sussessfully all your core courses. (I read that he needed to be in summer school to make up for those he failed - NOT HAPPENING). #2. He can get his grade point average up in his senior year, but...#3 He will need to get an outstanding ACT/SAT score to balance out the low GPA. I have heard of decent students not even being able to pull off a great score on those tests. In other words, I would love to see him in scarlet and grey but I hope someone is talking reality to him.

Not going to summer school when you know it has to be done? Trying? :( I don't mean to come across mean spirited, I just don't understand this kid. Last week it was reported that he knew he had to go the Juco route and this week he claims he is getting it together? Mixed messages.

free Bnuts Hight article

What is your favorite college?

"Ohio State is my favorite school. They're who I watch on Saturdays. Of the schools that have offered me a scholarship, West Virginia is probably my leader. I went to visit Akron on Saturday, and I really like their facilities."

It's no secret you've got grade issues. We've talked before, and you're an excellent speaker, with above average intelligence. Why do you have grade problems?

"It's all my fault. Coach Cross and others warned me I was messing up, but I didn't listen. I was lazy. I'm hoping to do better this year."

Would you go to a junior college if you aren't qualified to play Division I football?

"I might go to a JC to go through the recruiting process again, or I could commit to one of the schools that have offered me now. I'm not sure right now."

What advice would you give to younger football players just beginning their high school careers?

"Just to keep their grades up. If they do that, everything else will fall into place for them, but grades have to be number one, not football."

What don't people know about you that they would be surprised to learn?

"That I'm an intelligent person."

Makes sense that WVU is the leader- they also took Ray Willaims :shake:

free Bnuts - McKinley 7 on 7 scrimmage

McKinley's Antwon Hight was clearly the most outstanding player on the field. At 6' 4" 280 pounds, Hight moved like a player 75 pounds lighter. Antwon played TE and showed the ability to get deep and catch the football. This combination of size and speed makes Hight one of the top defensive ends in Ohio. Hight, ranked as one of Ohio's top players by Ohio High magazine, told me he has scholarship offers from Michigan State, West Virginia, Akron and Penn State. He is hoping to improve his GPA and has not taken the ACT. If he improves his academic standing, Hight could be one of the top recruits in Ohio.

Let's wait and see what the guy does to take care of his academics before we crucify him. Yeah, he probably should've gone to summer school but he still has his senior year to get it together...let's hope he does.

Antwon Hight does things on the field that a 280 pound player should not be able to do. He disrupts the opposition's offense from his defensive end spot, and on the other side of the ball, he's a terror at tight end. He caught a TD pass and was a devastating blocker. Hight has as much talent as any lineman in Ohio, and he is poised to have a great year. If Antwon can improve his academic standing, he will be recruited by every school in the country. He has as much potential as former Bulldog and Buckeye Kenny Peterson, now with the Green Bay Packers

Why was he off the team in the first place? The link above didn't get into it...

I believe the official word was "unspecified reasons"

Although he most likely won't end up in Columbus, like VG said, I thought it was interesting that he was back on the team.
