'05 Glenville DL Curtis Smith (Cincinnati signee)

Buckskin86 and/or BuckNutty or anyone,
Please excuse me if I missed it, but is Curtis being recruited by OSU?? He seems to have great size, speed and skills ?? At 6'2"/235 and running a 4.6, he could play at a number of postions it seems.

Smith has been quoted as saying he knows he needs to get a good score on his ACT and if he does he will get more offers. That is obviously one factor. Another is that we're pretty loaded on the d-line and already have committments from Worthington, Denlinger and Williams, not to mention Lawrence Wilson who might select the Buckeyes soon.

I suspect if Smith qualifies he could get an offer, especially if other recruits like Wilson go elsewhere. He's a great athlete and could play a number of positions at the next level, something the Buckeye staff covets.

Thanks for the info. I was just thinking he'd also be good as a possible linebacker, where OSU has a need to recruit for the future, and/or rotate in at any number of positions with that speed. As you said, he is versatile and would do very good at OSU IMO. Hope he makes the grades. Thanks again

I would just add one other thing to Nutty's answer-

There has been some rumblings that the uncommitted Glenville kids (C. Smith, Lenix and Tim Connor) could be a "package" deal somewhere else (Iowa, Pitt are two possibilities) if tOSU waits too long offering Smith/Lenix. Take it fwiw (which are just rumors at this point).

Rivals premium

He was supposed to visit Wisky with Lenix but went to Cincy instead (he enjoyed his Cincy trip).

Curtis and Freddie are visiting MSU together on Dec. 17th and he may join Freddie at Iowa this weekend.

Curtis ended the season with 26 sacks!! He does not plan to make a decision anytime soon. I would imagine if tOSU came in with a late offer (like Curtis Terry) he would be a Buckeye.

Smith, McBryde make college commitments
Friday, January 21, 2005
Curtis Smith's desire to go "somewhere different" and Derek McBryde's chances of playing football as a true freshman are the reasons Smith made a verbal commitment to Cincinnati and McBryde picked Kent State.

"I wanted to go somewhere different from where some of the other guys are going," said Smith, a 6-1, 245-pound senior defensive end-fullback at Glenville.

"I looked at Michigan State and Penn State, but Cincinnati seemed different and I liked it."

Smith registered 98 tackles, including 47 solo stops, 14 sacks and 16 tackles for loss. On offense, he gained 130 yards rushing while scoring two touchdowns.

He'll played defensive end in college.
