Position: WR, CB
Projected as: WR, CB
Position Rank: NR
Class: 2005 Senior
High School: Banneker HS
(College Park, GA)

Biography:
One of the fastest players in the state of Georgia, Thomas is also an exceptional baseball player. He had 20 catches for 411 yards and five touchdowns as a junior, and he batted .627 as a sophomore playing second base and center field.

Thomas was one of the top performers at the Atlanta Nike Camp and was considered the best receiver there running a 4.41 and a 4.38 40. He is considered by many the best receiver in the Atlanta metro area. The Buckeyes are recruiting Thomas to play both ways and he's aware of the fact Gamble did both in Columbus. Per the latest Rivals update his favorites include Florida, Georgia, Ohio State, Clemson and Oklahoma, in that order. All 5 of his favorites have offered.

Junior Stats:

Offense - 24 catches, 600 yards, 7 touchdowns.
Defense - 36 tackles, 2 interceptions.

He's not in my neck of the woods so I probably won't be able to check him out. But he'll be a tough one to get especially if he's one of the top players in the state. Richt has been doing a Tressel like effort of trying to keeping the top players in the state and doing a good job.

He sounds like somebody who may be a first round baseball prospect with those stats. Not sure who Banneker plays against, but it's probably a 5-AAAAA school (D-1 in Ohio), most of the Atlanta schools are and they are usually very competitive.

CARLOS THOMAS

School, class: Banneker, senior

Position: Wide receiver/defensive back

Vital statistics: 6-0, 185

Just the facts: Younger brother of Georgia Tech's Levon Thomas is one of state's most athletic players. Had 17 receptions for 411 yards and four touchdowns. GPA is 2.6; scored 890 on SAT.

Colleges: Has offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Auburn, LSU, Oklahoma, Louisville, Maryland, Ohio State and North Carolina.

Interests: Runs track and plays baseball.
T-shirts or throwback jerseys: White T. I'm not into fashion. I just throw on a T-shirt and some shorts and go.

General comment on the season: "We got some studs on defense. I'm excited about the season and our new coach."

Although the last few updates have not been promising- sounds like he might be headed to one of the Georgia schools.

committed to GTech

Georgia Tech gets verbal commitment from Atlanta defensive back

Morris News Service

ATLANTA - Carlos Thomas verbally committed to play football at Georgia Tech in an interview on Comcast Sports Southeast's Sportsnite program Wednesday night.

Thomas is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound senior cornerback/wide receiver at Banneker High School. In three games this season, he has 17 catches for 278 yards and four touchdowns as well as two interceptions as a cornerback.

Thomas is the younger brother of current Georgia Tech wide receiver Levon Thomas.

Thomas is the ninth player to verbally commit to Georgia Tech for next season. Verbal commitments are non-binding, and NCAA rules prohibit Georgia Tech's coaches from talking about a recruit publicly until the recruit signs a National Letter of Intent.

Nothing really new in this update. He will visit for scUM weekend. Georgia Tech has told him he will play early for them and it looks like he'll be a receiver initially for them. Ohio State wants him at corner and Mel Tucker is recruiting him. Thomas says the Buckeyes are "a good team" and he "wouldn't mind playing for them."

I sure hope this game with Ohio State vs. M!ch!g*n gave Carlos something to think about while he was at the game. This game had to make him think of all the National exposure he'll get if he signed with Ohio State. There are few places like The Shoe with all these faithful fans and tradition. I'd bet he was amazed how loud it was there today at the game .. hell I was and I've been to many games myself. He's also got to be thinking about all the potential he'd be a part of, while at Ohio State, and of going all the way most every year; as opposed to other schools he may have considered signing with ....
