One of the top quarterbacks in the 2005 recruiting class will be a young quarterback from Delaware. He also will probably be one of the top recruits in the New England States and also one of the best in the East.

Gene DelleDonne (6-5, 225, 4.81) is a strong-armed field general from Wilmington Salesianum and he has some great quarterback skills and abilities. His best quarterback skill is his strong arm.

As a junior in only nine games, DelleDonne completed 130 passes out of 222 attempts for 1,755-yards and 14 touchdowns. He only had 5 interceptions and he also had many dropped passes, but he still was very accurate as his completion record was a very good 59%. He also averaged 195-yards per game.

He is still 16-years of age and will play his entire senior season as a young 17-year old. He is a member of the National Honor Society as he carries a great 3.65 GPA in college prep courses.

According to his father he will visit tOSU in the spring.

pretty bright kid- he doesn't favor us right now but you never know what that visit will do

We need a top QB this year (especially if Bauserman goes baseball as many seem to think). A top QB coming in this year could potentially get 3 years to start (if they redshirt and beat out Boeckman).

This really might be the year to get a top OOS guy. I am not sure the instate guys will make the cut.

He lists his top 6 as Ohio State, Nebraska, Purdue, Florida, Pittsburgh and Boston College in the latest Rivals article.

Interesting tidbit is that he was one of 3 ball boys at the past years Elite 11 camp- that is usually reserved for the top junior prospects

Sounds good. I think he's intrigued with Nebraska, of course that could change depending on how Callahan's first year goes. He seems to like Purdue too, but OSU is right up there and is showing a lot of interest. He will probably be our #1 QB target this year. Stull may be #2 depending on how he shows at camp. Supposedly Stull had a great camp at OSU last year.

According to the last Insiders update we are in his top 2 along with Notre Dame and he plans on attending the spring game. He also says he thinks he's a Big Ten style quarterback and would like to choose a school before the end of the summer.

According to my buddy who went to every Salesianum quarterback Gene Delle Donne game says this kid is "fu$%ing awful" and that he had some really good receivers making those stats look good. His brother played there and is going to to W VA. My buddy went there, too... I'm on the phone with him now, Bill Filer, "noodle-arm.... no ability to read a defense... only reason he even starts is that his dad built the entire athletic field for Salesianum... 2 QBs went to St. Mark's instead because they knew they wouldn't play at Salesianum... has watched him for the past 3 years..." Bill Played for the Fighting Blue Hens... "I know a good QB when I see one and Gene Delle Donne is NOT ONE OF THEM!!" Only reason ND is interested in him according to Billy is that he's got a brain. Says he's slower than "dog$hit".

***just got off the phone with him... he is really mad that this kid is getting all this attention.... feel bad I posted this but, he was really astonished that Ohio State would be after this kid.

It sounds to me like someone has an axe to grind with Gene (or maybe his dad?). I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I find it hard to believe that this kid is as highly rated as he is because he has a talented group of receivers. I haven't seen any of his receivers on any lists. I know it's early, but this kid seems to have all of the tools. Has anyone else seen film of him that might be able to substantiate these claims?

My buddy Billy seems a little old to really have an axe to grind. His brother is already going to WVA to play football- according to him- and I do know that Billy is a complete BS artist to the Nth degree-but I believe him a little bit in this matter because he was like, "Dude, we were 1-9, or 3-7, how good do you think our QB was?" I was like, "Dude, he had like 1700 yds passing? Where'd he come up with that?" He's like, "He had some really awesome receivers." So I was like "Okay... I'm going to post your differing opinion because everyone else seems to disagree"... he's like "Fine... but don't do it on any really big place... I'll wake up tomorrow and his dad will have a friggin' hit out on me."

I agree... he sounds biased... really biased... and I was astonished to hear him be such a dick about this kid... I just knew that he went to Salesianem... We've been friends since our AG Edwards broker training over 3yrs ago... Billy is a really funny and cool person... he's 6'8" and went thru a training camp with the Jets as a TE until he facked up his shoulder and didn't want to play in the XFL a couple yrs later so... just about the only thing I trust about him is his football acumen... outside of that he's your typical real-fast-talkin extreme east coast person that walks up to every hot chick and tries to lay them (I'm serious).. you have to laugh at him...on the last day of our training we had to stand in front of 100 of our peers and tell them all our "plan" to get ahead... he walked up in Flip Flops in April in St. Louis and said... "My name's Bill Filer.......... And I'm an Alcoholic... oh... wrong room".... he's quite hilarious... survived the WTC bombings on Sept 11th (was in Morgan Stanley's training program at the time) because he was hung over and was skipping class downstairs at the pharmacy getting pepto b.... I worried about him a lot that day... outside of that I just say whatever to him a LOT. don't know why he likes being my friend.

***edit*** didn't mean to imply Billy went the WVA he played Football at Deleware and at Salesianem class of 95 or 96.

[sarcasm]So Delle Donne sucks, but all of his receivers are good?! Exactly who was it who got these guys the ball?! Are the WRs telekinetic or something?! You know, Joe Montana and Steve Young really sucked too, they were just lucky enough to have a pretty good WR![/sarcasm]

I've never seen any of them play, so I can't really vouch for their abilites one way or the other. The nature of the interest in Delle Donne indicates to me though that he's a pretty decent ballplayer. Or, he may be farily overrated for all I know... but it still sounds like your buddy is talking out his ass.

I'm calling bullsh*t here. It sounds like this guy has an axe to grind with the family. You don't get invited to work the elite 11 camp after your sophomore year if you're "f*cking awful."

If he's not up to OSU's standards, that'll sort itself out at camp this summer. Gene and Bill Stull will probably be the two to watch. Stull keeps adding offers.
