Met him once at a Ft Lauderdale Airshow party one of the properties on the beach that we managed (at the time) was holding, probably 9-10 years ago. He had some family that lived in the building. Much shorter than I expected. Good guy, very pleasant. A funny story about him from that...

People to Punch, Pet Peeves, and General Vexations (mega-merge)

I almost put this rant in the Tropical Weather thread, since it pertains to the lingering aftermath of Irma, but it really should go here. Fuck these stupid fucking people down here who have no fucking clue as to how to drive when traffic signal don't work. I swear that 90% of the people on...

Absolutely a gorgeous day today, but still hot as hell. Yard clean up is about 80% done, but I had to come in, cold shower and relax after about 3.5 hours of it.

Yep. Mainly it is there to keep the bugs out. Lots of mosquitos, gnats, no-see-ums (like gnats but bite) around here. It does also help a bit with cutting down the uv as well, depending on what type of screen you use.

Neighbor to the north of me lost the top of his mango tree which is laying in my yard. Neighbor behind me has a fence panel blown out. My rubber tree (that I want to get rid of any way) in the back yard has lost about 40% of its branches so far. Winds are anywhere from 25mph to 75mph right...

Woke up this morning to the sound of high winds and pounding rain. Gusting probably around 60-70mph Went outside to survey overnight damage, and a couple of screen panels on my pool enclosure are ripped out, and tree debris is everywhere, but no real damage so far. Got about 4 inches of rain...

Shutters are up, pool furniture is in the sun-room. Good lord it is hot today. I probably lost 5lbs in sweat alone. Will lower the pool level tomorrow. Looking like Sunday is going to be happy fun time with Irma.

All that needs is this spliced in at the end: Now you have the full forced fear-mongering that I loath during these weather events.

Of course it is. It is Florida, after all, and I live about 2 miles from Deenie's Hideaway.

You don't need it, but the fear-mongering news tells everyone to panic and BUY BUY BUY and that is what the sheeple then go do. It is nuts down here when a weather event happens. If you live full time in Florida, and you don't have a constant stock of batteries, candles, and emergency items...

Yep, the public panic has settled in. I got gas on my way into the office yesterday morning, and it was busy (6:45am) but mostly lawn-service types filling up their equipment for the day like normal. Driving past the station this morning, it had 20+ cars lined up on Federal Hwy blocking a full...

Too much uncertainty in the path right now in order to get a bead on what this thing will do. That doesn't stop the local news stations here in SoFlo going into overdrive trying to start a panic. I have to go grocery shopping after work (which I was too lazy to do over the weekend), not...

    Home Repairs/HoneyDo List/Advice & Tips/etc.

Eureka makes a decent product. Had the below for about 7 years, only changed the belt a couple of times and very easy to maintain. I think I got it at Target and paid something like $130 for it.
