Before going on IR he had been benched and was a "healthy" scratch the first time in his career. One of the games he only got in on a couple special teams snaps. The lingering injury issue probably saved him from being released. I can't imagine he'll be back.
He must have just been cut off their practice squad. He spent the first 7 games on the Cowboys active roster and was cut and added to their practice squad on 11/5. An article on the team's site from 11/9 about Tony Romo mentioned Rod being at practice.
I see his last tweet was 2 hours ago, answering a question whether he was going to switch from rooting for the Blues to the Kings in NHL (under the obvious assumption he was moving to L.A.)
I was surprised when I saw this news. I read some articles/lists of potential cap casualties yesterday and didn't even see him mentioned at all. I shouldn't be totally shocked, considering the business side of the NFL, but usually these moves have a lot of speculation or at least some analysis...
He just made the Rams active roster! I don't think he has been in a game since 2012. Way to stick with it!

The Spurs extended his required tender. Previous 2 years he declined and stayed overseas. This year, he informed them he would sign and has. Uphill battle to make the team, but if he is cut then at least they won't be able to squat on his rights...
Since he doesn't have practice squad eligibility, I think he needs to go to the CFL and/or try to find a place where he can actually get on the field and make some plays. He's too much of a project at WR for a roster spot. He needs to take the advice Chip Kelly and so many others gave Tim Tebow...

But added to practice squad...
For now he has reverted to Washington's IR. Once cleared, he could negotiate an injury settlement and become a free agent.

He was released by San Diego Summer of 2014. Signed to Rams Practice Squad in Dec 2014. Signed a futures contract and spent this year on the Rams off-season roster. Released Sept.1 and signed to practice squad yesterday...
