RANGERS LIKELY DONE WITH ZHERDEV

Nikolai Zherdev's decision to file for salary arbitration probably means that it will be one-and-done on Broadway for the underachieving winger.
As it was, there was debate within the organization whether to qualify Zherdev at the required $3.25 million price tag after his uneven season that frustrated both Tom Renney and John Tortorella.
Now, with Zherdev seeking a contract believed in the neighborhood of $4.5M, there's little doubt the Blueshirts would walk away from an arbitration award that's even a nickel more than $3.25M, and thus make the 24-year-old winger an unrestricted free agent.

Nikolai Zherdev awarded $3.9 million
Nikolai Zherdev. the skilled right wing who rejected the Rangers offer of a one-year, $3.25 million contract and went to arbitration, has been awarded $3.9 million.
Arbitrator Elliot Shiftman. who heard the arguments from each side at a hearing on Friday in Toronto, decided on the award today. Zherdev had sought upwards of $4 million.
The Rangers had no immediate comment, and will have 48 hours to decide to accept the contract. If they reject the award, Zhederv, 24, who scored 58 points last season, can declare himself a free agent.

im assuming you guys are still upset with the tyutin-z trade?

New York Rangers - News: Rangers Walk Away from Zherdev Award - 08/04/2009

KHL? He doesn't deserve more than 4 IMO.. I'm sure someone will give it to him.
free agent. i said last summer i thought the khl was a legit possibility...

the tyutin for z move with parma and backman as side orders looks like an overwhelming victory for howson.
the redden "missed" signing appears to have gone in his favor also.

granted sather balks at z on one year for 3.9m, yet they sign kotalik to a 3 year 9m deal... im just glad im not a fan of the rags. kotalik is an egnimatic 40 point player, z is a super egnimatic 60 point player with top flight talent... i dont get it. then again i dont always understand it all.

Yes now he has at least two "overwhelming victories" with the recent signing of Nash being the other. Maybe even three if you count last years Umberger for draft picks deal.

Can't imagine who would over-pay more for an inconsistent 1-way player than the Rangers.

the foote for umberger deal. (or essentially that deal)

You make a good point, actually it's now (at least) four "overwhelming victories" for Howson. The Foote to Colorado for draft picks was technicaly a seperate deal.

i dont mark the philly-cbj with umbie-1st rounder as anything more than a good fair deal. i dont think either side really got a substaintial advantage. it was a good fair deal that im willing to bet both would be willing to make the same deal again. but if you do the foote--->umberger transitive certainly a huge win.
