  • The Buckeyes took both mid-week games against the Penguins of Youngstown State and the Miami Redhawks.

    Bucks down Penguins 3-0

    COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State baseball team shut out Youngstown State, 3-0, Tuesday evening at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. With the win, Ohio State improves to 17-8 while Youngstown State falls to 7-19.
    Two pitchers for each team combined to toss five scoreless frames to start off the game before the Buckeyes were able to take the lead against Youngstown State reliever Lance Horner in the bottom of the sixth. Troy Kuhn led off the inning with a single to center, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and Ryan Cypret plated him with an RBI single to center. After Horner struck out Pat Porter, Aaron Gretz singled up the middle to score Cypret for the 2-0 Ohio State lead.
    Brett McKinney started for the Buckeyes, striking out three over 2.0 hitless, scoreless innings and Tyler Giannonotti followed with 3.0 scoreless frames, striking out a pair. Greg Greve was the second Buckeye out of the bullpen, punching out three over 2.0 perfect frames.

    Buckeyes squeak by Redhawks 1-0

    COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State baseball team notched its second-consecutive shutout, 1-0, over Miami Wednesday evening at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 18-8 while the RedHawks fall to 12-12.
    Miami starter Brian Thene tossed three scoreless frames to open the game but the Buckeyes were able to take a 1-0 lead against reliever Clay Cinnamon in the bottom of the fourth as Jacob Bosiokovic was hit by a pitch with one down, moved to third after a pair of wild pitches, and scored on an RBI groundout by Troy Kuhn.
    Ohio State starter Jake Post breezed through five perfect frames before Miami?s Ryan Elble singled to right to lead off the top of the sixth. The freshman retired the next three batters before the Buckeyes threatened again in the bottom of the frame. Reliever Shane Kriss hit Pat Porter before Brandon Adkins came on and walked Aaron Gretz to put runners on first and second with two down. Adkins then uncorked a wild pitch to move both runners over but the right-hander struck out Kuhn to keep it a 1-0 game.
