We are now within two months of the season starting. Let's build up a little excitement and put some fearless predictions on the line for the upcoming season. I'll start.

Iowa will lose three games this year and finish ranked outside the top 10. They will be beaten by Ohio State by more than 14 points.

Here's mine:

Bucknut will drink case after case of Corona this season. Bucknut will also get teary eyed the first time the Buckeyes take the field this season. Finally, Bucknut will spend no time with his wife and kids from Sept till Jan.

Those are surprising? Oh, and I think you forgot have butterflies and nervous pacing disorder for every game even to include the likes of Miami and SDSU.

Michigan will lose three games. Most likely Penn State (yes I said it, Penn State pulls a shocker), Notre Dame, and Ohio State. They will however win the Capitol One Bowl leaving their fans feeling very smug.

-Indiana will again beat someone they shouldn't (like Oregon last year) and still finish with only 2 wins.

-Wisconsin will go 6-5, barely make a bowl game, and win it over someone supposedly better than them.

-Michigan State will again be the wildest 6-5 or 5-6 ride you could ever find, blowing out a contender on the road one week and tanking to Illinois or Indiana at home the next.

-Northwestern will crash to 4 wins or less.

LLLoyd Carr says: What's the shock in that?

UNC will give the ACC trouble this year.

Spurrier will find his ego bruised and battered by mid November

Urban Meyer's offense is less than spectacular in the SEC. But Chris Leak will still get Heisman Pub from Dennis Dodd.

Mack Brown will bend over for Stoops yet again.

USC will the Pac 10, but not every game.

UCF will be the surprise team of the Big East.

Texas A&M will make the conference championship.

Nebraska will suck

Omar Jacobs hype ends in Madison.

UTEP will win 8 or 9 games

Penn State won't

Neither will Miami (FL)

Not to be a nitpicker, but UCF just joined Conference USA - I believe you meant to say USF will be the surprise team of the Big East.

My surprising outcome: OSU and scUM will both be undefeated and ranked in the top 3 when they meet on Nov. 19.

I'll have to go with FSU winning with a last minute field goal to beat Miami... Finally.

Louisville will get into a BCS bowl and then either hold its own or win its bowl game

OSU will beat Texas by 17, and then turn around and beat Iowa by 14 two weeks later.

Penn St. will still suck

Nc State wins the ACC (yup I said it)

I disagree with this one. Early season match-ups are almost always favorable for the underdog, and Wisconsin lost just about everyone of importance on an admittedly good squad that probably over-acheived last year. The Badgers are starting three Sophs and a RS-Fresh on their D-Line, and of the four projected starting DBs, three of them combine for a grand total of 30 career tackles. The only returning DB with experience, 2004 starter Brett Bell, is rehabing a torn ACL.

Wisconsin has been embarrassed by the likes of Cincinnati before, on more than one occassion even, when they've been caught in a rebuilding year by a mid-major that is peaking. I expect that the only thing that will kill Jacobs' Heisman hype would be him playing as poorly as humanly possible -- I just don't see the Badgers DBs as being capable enough to control the BGSU offense.

If BGSU scores 30, they'll win, and I just don't see them having any trouble at all hanging 30 on that D.

My surprise outcome for the upcoming season is ...

USC loses two games.

Texas wins the Big-12 south completing the regular season with a 10-1 record, the lone loss being to OSU at the Horseshoe. As Texas fans begin to talk-up the impending rematch with OSU in the Rose Bowl for the National Title, the unthinkable happens ... Texas loses the Big-12 title game to the upstart Big-12 north champs, the fighting Manginos, who get revenge for their loss in Austin only a few weeks earlier in the regular season.

This paves the way for an OSU/Va Tech Rose Bowl.

Actually, I meant to put both teams in that category and flubbed the whole thing....

Thanks for catching that. I feel stupid now.

Don't mean to pile on, Scooter, but UTEP won 8 games last year and lost a close bowl game to Colorado. They've replaced Arizona St. and Boise St. (both losses) with New Mexico and Texas Southern on this year's schedule. And they won't have to play Louisville in a possible Conference-USA title game. I think it would be more of a surprise if UTEP wins less than 8 games in the weakened Conference-USA.
