YOUR 2016 Cleveland Indians Thread (American League CHAMPS!)

A break from you guys' goat fun...

I have an honest question...

What do you guys think about the block C? I am a Reds fan but when I think of the Indians, I think of the mid to late 90's teams that were just awesome. Those teams had the Indian on the hat. Now, though they still wear that hat some, the Indian seems to be getting fazed out. It just seems like the block C is pretty generic. Your thoughts?

Indians are bowing to pressure to be politically correct. The Chief is not banned, but won't be seen as much, according to Paul Dolan:

I think the block C sucks. It does not offer the team any real value as a mark. Most casual fans don't know the difference between it and the Reds' C or the Cubs' C. Prior to the current block C , the Indians tried to use a script I. You can still see it as the first letter of "Indians" on top of the big scoreboard. But I think that idea was dumped quite a while ago.

Here's a good history of the Indians' logos:

Yeah, I remember seeing the script I and didn't even like it either but it is way better than the block C. Agreed, that it doesn't offer anything of value for the team. If you're (the Indians) looking for a brand, that's about as bad as you can do.

I will say, if you (casual fan) don't know the difference between a wishbone C (Reds) and a basic/generic block C, just stop watching baseball.

Not sure that failing to pay much attention to cap logos is a reason to rip casual fans. Without them the game would not even exist in Cleveland or lots of other places.

If you don't believe that, take a look around the park the next time you are at a game. All those other things to see/do besides watch the game (like video boards, restaurants, bars, playgrounds for kids, souvenir shops and so on) are now part of the "game day experience." They don't add hardly anything for the die hard baseball fans. They're for everyone else and there are far more of them than there are us "real fans."

I must overestimate "casual" fans. I have a hard time believing...

Casual fan 1: "Hey what do you feel like doing?"
Casual fan 2: "I feel like drinking. Where should we go? There's that one bar down on Drink St..."
Casual fan 1: "Nah. Let's go to that stadium where that one baseball team plays. It costs $15-$30 to get in, the beers cost like $8 and I don't know anything about baseball but that would be fun."
Casual fan 2: "That sounds like an excellent idea. You know, I've heard that the stadium has a big screen and they show all sorts of baseball stuff. We don't have a real interest in baseball but that sounds fascinating."

Seriously, just pulling your chain and overexaggerating a bit with that example. Games must be different in Cleveland. I just can't grasp that one but I've never been to a game at Progressive. As to the logos, I guess we both agree that fazing out Chief Wahoo is lame and I get that maybe the club feels pressure to do so. I just hate to see them go with such a boring/plain block C.

Now even a CASUAL fan knows that she plays for the Indians.

Just remember at one point they went to all wahoo (taking the C off one or both caps), then put "Indians" on both jerseys. Thus removing all references to Cleveland. While the casual fan may not remember that, it was a big conspiracy theory at the time in the 80's (I don't know the year off the top of my head) that they were gonna pull a "colts" in the middle of the night and move to Miami or Denver or wherever.

I never knew about that. I grew up in a Reds/Browns house and didn't start to pay attention to baseball until 1990, when I was 7. So my greatest baseball memories are from when I was 7...

Edit: not bad considering it is Ohio's most recent championship from the four main sports
