One of these new game consoles is in my future but I’m still undecided on which one. The 360 comes out on Nov. 22 and the PS3 is scheduled for release sometime in ’06, but I’ve heard a few rumors that Sony might push it back to ’07 now.

The preliminary specs on the PS3 look a little bit better, but Sony hasn’t announced anything final yet. I currently have an Xbox and would be content waiting another year for the PS3 if it’s the better machine. What’s the consensus here? Price is a secondary concern and I only need about 10 good games a year, so quality vs. quantity is my priority.

The PS3 is supposed to be more than twice as fast (1 teraflop for xbox360 and 2 and half teraflops for PS3) so if you believe in all that hype than the PS3 is the way to go.

I personally wont give Microsoft anymore money than possible, so I'll be waiting for Sony's. I just have never seen anything on the X-box that interested me. I use the PC to play multiplayer games. And FPS's on the PC are WAY better.

I'm waiting for the PS3 to come out. I own a PS2. I'm curious as to the # of people who own one system but are going to buy the competing system this time. e.x. own ps2 now, buying xbox360 or own xbox buying ps3.

I have a feeling most will stay with what they have in way of manufacturer...thus Sony will once again dominate the market as soon as it is released. I think I read, but don't quote me, a 7 to 1 advantage for sony right now.

Whatever it is, I think Sony coming out last, as long as they are ahead on the hardware specs, is a positive. I still have no problems with my PS2. Still enjoy it....and still don't enjoy the xbox.

Love my x-box, so much better for me than the PS2 was. I like the games that x-box has, especially halo 1&2 and really halo 2 online is just such a blast. I'm buying the 360 because whenever I have comparable hardware I ALWAYS buy American.

Thanks for the input everyone. I’ve decided to go with the 360 and then if the PS3 turns out to be a better machine, I’ll just sell the 360 and get a PS3. But at least this way I’ll have about a year to play some next-generation games.
<O:p</O:p
But unfortunately it looks like every retailer has sold out of their preorders of the 360. Anyone know of somewhere I can still place a preorder so I can get a machine on Nov. 22nd? I’m looking for the premium edition and only a couple of games, not one of those $800 packages with 10 games.

No intel about the packages, but I'd encourage you to go with the 360 (yes I'm an xboxer). It is gonna be a long wait to get the PS3, and they will have the same long period of fixing bugs that xbox will. I would guess that you will have to wait 1.5-2.5 years more for the PS3, all the while others are playing NCAA, Madden, Halo, Burnout, and everything else in high-res glory.

Selling it for the other sounds like a better plan.

I've got an XBOX 360 pre-ordered along with a handful of games and a buddy of mine will probably get the PS3. Seeing as there hasn't been actual gameplay screens for the PS3 (just movies Sony produced to make everyone go ohhhhhh and ahhhhhh) and that the 360 is coming out before Thanksgiving it's an easy choice for me. I'm aware some of the better games will also be on the PC, but I'd rather spend $400 on a game system than $2000-$3000 on a PC with similar specs.
