Xbox 360- ethernet port issues

So my xbox 360 is not connecting to live anymore, I always connect with an ethernet cable from my router. It continues to tell me that the xbox is not detecting any network hardware to be connected. Just to be sure I connected my laptop to the same ethernet cord and I was still getting internet connection.
Further research on the interwebs seems to tell me that my ethernet port is broke on my xbox. Just wondering if anyone has had this issue? And if they have any suggestions?
Its going to cost about $110 to fix it if I send it to Microsoft or I could go with the wireless adaptor for $70(g) or the $100(n). So I'm just seeing if anyone else has any good suggestions or ideas for me or if anyone else has had this same problem.
 
Call and tell xbox you're going to switch to PS3 if they don't fix it for free. and see if they'll do it. if not go buy the wireless adapter if you already have a wireless router. You can get a wireless n adapter at best buy for around $85usd. It'll save you some cash and you won't have the 2-3 week down time with out your xbox.

Well this is the third 360 I've had, I originally bought one at launch and had a one year warranty with it. Then when it got red ring of death, I went to Best Buy where I originally bought it and got another one and another one year warranty. This was all before Microsoft announced that everyone had a one year warranty from them. So this 360 is about two years old I think.

If you're going to plunk down the dollars for a 1 year warranty (which probably won't be very useful, since they usually break after that)...

you should just spend $50 for a year membership to costco. You get a 100% refund if anything happens to it (you can even return it if you don't like it). They'll give you the purchase price in cash, so if the 360 console drops in price after that, you'll make money by rebuying it after the return.

When I got the Xbox at the original launch it was a Christmas present from my girlfriend at the time and her parents bought me the warranty. When that first xbox died on me I went ahead and got another warranty because at the time I figured that $80>$400(price of an xbox at the time).

So I guess my next question is does anyone have experience with either of the wireless adapters from Microsoft? Is the G Wireless adapter at $70 good enough or does $100 N adapter warrant the extra $30? I do stream videos from my laptop to my 360 onto my tv.
