XB Xavier Johnson (Houston Texans)

Johnson appeared poised to exit the program after his fifth season upon walking at Ohio State’s senior day ceremony and participating in the program’s subsequent Senior Tackle event, but Ryan Day said last week that he could provide Ohio State some positional flexibility in 2023. The former walk-on caught 10 passes for 108 yards and touchdown this season and also ran the ball six times for 118 yards and a score, and said his decision to still “up in the air” as of now.

“It's definitely a consideration. It's something that, it's kind of a big decision,” Johnson said. “So I've been praying on it and I've been talking to my family about it, trying to just get their counsel, their input. So I couldn't say I'm 100% one way or another, currently. But that is something that me and Coach Day, especially Coach (Brian Hartline), talked about at length. So we're just trying to figure out, navigate those waters and see exactly where it leads.”

I actually think our special teams have been poor this year.

Having a good FG kicker and punter hide the ugly elements. Twice against Michigan, we missed huge opportunities to down Michigan inside their 2 yard line. Lack of awareness prevented us from making it happen.

Kick-off returns have been average at best. The experiment with Chip was awful….and thankfully abandoned quite quickly.

JMO.

Hey X, you've played very well for tOSU. Not entirely certain that you'll get drafted, maybe NDFA, but no guarantee that you'll stick in the pros. Soooo, why not utilize your free year and return to the Buckeyes. Get yourself a graduate degree so if the NFL thing doesn't work (although Buckeye Nation hopes it will), then you've jump started the rest of your life/career with an advanced degree from tOSU. Think about it....and Go Bucks!

The weakness of the middle and bottom of the roster was glaring. Knowles is staying, so I wouldn’t be too upset if LJ retires. We need more out of the DL.
We had 4 4 star wr freshman and instead X had to play wr and rb. Hayden a 4 star rb played some. We had the ball on the 32 and we had Rossi as the RB, everyone knew we were throwing short. So Ga blitzed and pressed and CJ had no chance. We need to get freshman on the field to help out and to keep them engaged and out of the portal.

They had Rossi in at RB exactly cause Georgia was blitzing. It's clear the didn't trust Xavier, Hayden or chip in blitz pickup. And Rossi did a damn fine job that last drive.

The problem is we should have probably run the play with him out the same formation instead of giving it away by subbing in Hayden and going pistol. Even if as how we were running that night I would have preferred Johnson as he seems to have the best vision of the backs we had most of the night.

To me, I think he is probably weighing to stay or transfer to another program. He had a good role for the playoff game, my guess is he wants Day to commit to give him that type of role consistently next season. If he enters the portal, I'm sure other coaches will lay out an consistent expanded role to what he had this year.

He's an Ohio kid who came to tOSU as a walk-on. He has truly bought into the brotherhood. He may try the NFL (probably as an UFA) but I cannot see him transferring to another school. He'll either go NFL or stay at tOSU and work on his Masters while he plays another year for the Bucks.

I'm sure other teams have been in contact with him and have attempted to pick him off. It might not have crossed his mind to transfer in a different era but I think other teams have most likely pitched him already. Part of that pitch probably is giving him the best shot at making it in the NFL.

I think there is room to expand his role with the Buckeyes so I don't see it as a problem but I do think they have to repitch him to keep him. Staying another year with an expanded role or transferring to get that expanded role, gives him the best shot at making it with an NFL team.
