WTF is wrong with television?

Good TV is getting rarer.

Damages is a good show on FX - a complex plot with solid acting. The major networds seem reluctant to make the investment in shows like that.

And there you have it...a show to which to actually have to fucking pay attention. Too many viewers just want to shut their minds off and let the show poor shit in through the top of their heads.

I'm surprised that shows like Law & Order are still around.

So we have to sit through crappy and undeveloped early-show episodes just so every show starts with good enough ratings to justify a renewed contract? I say it's on the networks to have a little more integrity and commitment to their product.

Agreed. I'm going to use the fact that a certain show MIGHT be good sometime as a reason to watch it. If a show isn't any good this week, the network better hope that there's nothing better on any other networks next week if they want me to watch again.

I guess I'm extra salty about this today because my wife started watching Dancing with the Stars last night at 10:30 when I wanted to go to sleep. Have you ever tried to go to sleep with that annoying shit in the background? Then while I'm laying on my stomach trying to sleep she ask, "Do you know that SteveO guy?" I DON'T FUCKING CARE ABOUT STEVEO OR ANY OF THE HOMOS ON THAT SHOW. NEVER EVER TALK TO ME ABOUT ANY OF THOSE GAY REALITY SHOWS THAT YOU NEVER USED TO WATCH, BUT DO NOW. I don't give a shit what she watches as long as it doesn't affect when I want to go to bed. Of course it's morons like her that are getting good shows canceled.

Just parental lock the show out :)

Pushing Daisies gets cancelled, Bret F. Michaels, Tila F. Tequila, Flava F. Flav, get renewed. [censored] you, America.

Now don't you go badmouthing Bret Michaels!!!! Rock of Love Bus is the only reality show I watch. Though it's going to suck now that he got rid of most of the crazy people. And Taya the loopy Penthouse girl is from Marion Ohio. What else could you want in a show?

Other than that I only watch old reruns of Star Trek TNG

Sounds like a perfect lineup. I watched 4 hours of TNG one night last week on SciFi, and those were the crappy season 1 shows. TNG is my favorite show of all time and it would have been canceled before it got good in season 2 or 3 because it took that long to figure itself out.

Incidently, I have found myself reading a ton more the past few years, which is a good thing.

I will bad-mouth Bret Michaels and his damaged stripper-whores until the day I die.

The only good thing about any of these shows is that they give The Soup plenty of fodder.

How is is that USA and FX and TNT can makes shows worth watching and keep them on for years, but NBC, ABC, and CBS can't? I just don't get it.

I would watch DS9 too if anyone would run the old reruns. About the 4th season that show got spectacular.

Thank god for cable eh? I think the problem with the main networks is they are driven by ratings/money. They don't like taking risks with letting new shows develop or even go out on a limb on certain shows. So they go for the easy ratings and low costs of alot of those shows.

Whereas on the cable networks the ratings that turn the major networks off are gold mines for channels like SciFi, FX, TNT, USA and such. A 3.5 rating on ABC gets shit canned within 3 weeks. A 3.5 on FX is a great rating.

It is the reason why I watch so many shows on cable versus network TV. I specifically LOVE the USA lineup. While Monk & Psych are getting old and have run its course they pick up Burn Notice & In Plain Sight. The only problem is they take HUGE breaks between their seasons.

Agree about USA. Monk has gotten a bit stale lately, but it's only got one season left now, so I'm sure they'll go all out with it. Psych is still light and fun and I love In Plain Sight. I recorded the scene where Mary flipped out on her mom and sister and watched it at least a dozen times. I don't care for Burn Notice, but I am a huge fan of Vincent D'onofrio on Law & Order: CI.

I'm desperately hoping one of the cable channels picks up Pushing Daisies. IMO, it woud be a great fit in with the rest of USA's original programming.
