WWE star Triple H announces retirement from in-ring action after heart surgery

Triple H, one of the best-known professional wrestling stars of the last several decades, will not perform in the ring again, he told Stephen A. Smith on ESPN's First Take on Friday.

The WWE legend, whose real name is Paul Levesque, went into heart failure last September following a bout with viral pneumonia, he said, and there were moments when he was not sure if he would make it. Levesque, 52, made his WWE debut in 1995 and is a 14-time world champion.

"I will never wrestle again," Levesque, who is also an executive vice president with WWE, said. "First of all, I have a defibrillator in my chest, which, you know, probably not a good idea for me to get zapped on live TV."

Forty-five current and former college athletes, including 19 with football experience, will participate in WrestleMania tryouts this week, according to ESPN. Tryouts kicked off Wednesday and will last through Friday in Frisco, Texas. All tryout participants are 25 years old or younger, according to the report. The tryout pool consists of 53 total participants, with the eight non-collegiate athletes checking in as standouts in either CrossFit or MMA.

College football participants in the tryouts, according to ESPN, include but are not limited to ex-TCU offensive lineman Anthony McKinney, ex-Washington State defensive lineman Dallas Hobbs, ex-Kentucky defensive lineman Abule Abadi-Fitzgerald, and ex-UCLA and Miami tight end Evidence Njoku, who is the younger brother of Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku.

Seven college basketball players are additionally accounted for within the group, according to ESPN. Among them are former North Florida men's basketball forward Ezekiel Balogun, former Florida A&M women's basketball guard Asia Royster and former Saint Joseph's men's basketball forward Lorenzo Edwards, who is the son of former NBA first-round draft pick Kevin Edwards.

Volleyball, soccer, track and field, and wrestling are also represented within the collegiate contingent, according to ESPN. Current college athletes, whose names were not disclosed, will reportedly be considered for WWE's second 15-member NIL class, which will be announced in June.

Just sayin':
  • Carlos Aviles (Ventura, California), a 6-foot-6, 305-pound track and field athlete at Ohio State
was in the 1st group that got a WWE NIL deal.

Tammy Sytch, a former WWE wrestler with a history of legal problems, has been accused by Florida police of causing a fatal car accident while under the influence of alcohol last month.

The 49-year-old New Jersey native has not been charged, but she allegedly crashed her 2012 Mercedes into the rear of a 2013 Kia Sorento on March 25 at 8:28pm, according to a report provided to DailyMail.com by Ormond Beach Police.

A 75-year-old man and Sytch were both taken to the hospital for their injuries. The man, identified as Julian Lafrancis Lasseter of Daytona Beach Shores, ultimately died, according to police. TMZ was the first outlet to report the story.

The report claims that Sytch had been 'driving at a high rate of speed' before the collision, and police believe she was drunk at the time of the crash. A blood sample was taken from Sytch, but the results have not been released.

'The Ormond Beach Police Department Traffic Unit is actively investigating the crash,' read a statement provided to DailyMail.com. 'The investigation may lead to criminal charges, which are pending toxicology results. OBPD has requested an expedited timeframe on the processing of these samples and the results will be made available as soon as the department receives them.

A third car was also involved in the collision, but its passengers did not require medical attention for their injuries.

Sytch, a WWE Hall of Famer who wrestled under the names 'Sunny' and 'Lynn Sytch' for much of her career, has at least six other DWI arrests, including a 2019 charge in New Jersey for driving the wrong way on a one-way street.

She was also arrested five times in less than a month in 2012 for a variety of charges, including third-degree burglary and disorderly conduct.

Sytch has been in and out of jail in New Jersey and Pennsylvania for several parole violations.

This year, she was arrested in New Jersey after allegedly trying to stab a lover with a pair of scissors, according to the Post and Courier. She was charged with unlawfully possessing a weapon and making terroristic threats.

I'm not surprised that she was involved in a fatal accident like this, but I am surprised that it happened recently (within past few weeks) because I honestly thought she was still in jail.

Report: WWE board opens inquiry into CEO Vince McMahon's alleged $3M settlement for ex-employee's silence

The board of World Wrestling Entertainment is investigating a secret $3 million settlement that company CEO Vince McMahon agreed to make to a former employee over an alleged affair, according to a Wall Street Journal report Wednesday.

The separation agreement, which was signed in January, is meant to prevent the now-former employee from discussing her relationship with McMahon or making disparaging comments about him, according to the Journal. An email sent to WWE board members March 30 indicates that the 76-year-old McMahon hired the former staffer, 41, on a $100,000 salary and then gave her a raise to $200,000 after the start of the alleged sexual relationship with her.

The report, citing documents and the accounts of people familiar with the board inquiry, said the board's investigation began in April and has uncovered other nondisclosure agreements over the years involving misconduct claims from former employees against McMahon and John Laurinaitis, WWE's head of talent relations.

The email sent to the board regarding the former WWE employee, who was hired as a paralegal in 2019, alleged that McMahon gave the woman to Laurinaitis "like a toy." The board is investigating the email's allegations, the report stated. The Journal reported that the board has retained the law firm Simpson Thacher & Bartlett to conduct the investigation and that payments of other nondisclosure agreements, outside of the one involving the former employee, have totaled in the millions of dollars.

An ESPN request for comment from WWE was not returned Wednesday night. The Journal reported that a WWE spokesman said the company is cooperating fully with the board investigation and that the relationship between the paralegal and McMahon was consensual.

McMahon bought the then-World Wrestling Federation (WWF) from his father, Vincent J. McMahon, in 1982 and built the company into a global wrestling powerhouse and media conglomerate that has produced crossover stars such as Hulk Hogan, The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin and John Cena.

WWE is a publicly traded company, but McMahon still holds a majority of the shareholders' voting power.
