WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

At least Newberg gets it...

Scout.com: The BLITZ

I will once again but I want to first talk about Pryor. First, he is a dazzling recruit on both sides of the ball and in basketball. Pryor contends that he wants to play both football and hoops at the next level. For those football programs that said no to Pryor on being a two sport athlete they were quickly eliminated. Things are down to basically six schools; Ohio State, West Virginia, Penn State, Oregon, Tennessee and Florida.

Ohio State has been his lone official visit thus far. He has a very good relationship with many of the Buckeye commitments, Jim Tressel (and the rest of the staff) as well as the basketball coaches in Columbus. Pryor has recently stated that he’s a little concerned about Ohio State’s offense and what they do. Pryor will want two things in the end. First, he wants to play quarterback in a system that utilizes all of his skills, meaning he wants to have the chance to both run and throw the ball. So a spread offense or a version of something like that would appeal best to him. Second, he wants to play basketball.

What Pryor needs to understand is that Tressel will build his offense around the skill sets of his players. The Buckeye offense was different with Troy Smith compared to how things were done this past season with Todd Boeckman. Certainly if Pryor were to choose Ohio State then they would run more of what we saw with Smith at the helm. But will Pryor be convinced enough to select the Buckeyes in the end?

Penn State, to me, is the dark horse with Pryor. Why? They are the home state school that he is very comfortable with. Pryor has taken many unofficial visits to Happy Valley. He also really has a good relationship with Tom Bradley. Like Ohio State, how their offense would evolve with Pryor at the helm concerns him because they don’t run the spread. Again, like Ohio State and Troy Smith above, you can say the same thing about former quarterback Penn State Michael Robinson. Robinson was an athletic quarterback for the Nittany Lions.

Tennessee is a team that would really have to change up their offense to fit Pryor. Would that happen? Knowing Tennessee offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe, he would at least put in multiple packages that would be very conducive to Pryor and what he brings to the table, especially after seeing first hand how Florida’s spread offense has blossomed under Tim Tebow. Pryor is also impressed with Cutcliffe in the work he did with Peyton and Eli Manning. Again, like Penn State and Ohio State, Tennessee would have to alter some things and there’s a concern here. One other thing to consider will Cutcliffe be at Tennessee or will he get a chance at the Duke job?

West Virginia is another story. Here’s an offense that everyone has seen light up the scoreboard with quarterback Pat White and running back Steve Slaton. White has obviously been marvelous running that offense and showcasing his running and passing skills. What makes them so dangerous and explosive is the White/Slaton tandem. Sure Slaton will be gone but there are other running backs there like Noel Devine, who showed some good things this past season as a true freshman.

The same can be said with Oregon, where quarterback Dennis Dixon really came into his own this season for the Ducks. Teamed with running back Jonathan Stewart, Oregon put up big numbers in ’07. In reality though will distance hurt the Ducks? It could in the end.

There’s still Florida out there and the Gators are probably the least talked about team with Pryor. Obviously like Oregon and West Virginia the Gator offense would suit Pryor but I think UF is a long shot at this point.

So where are things at with Pryor? First, he has the state championship game to play in this weekend. Then, he jumps right in to basketball season. Pryor is also playing in the U.S. Army All-American Game. He has only taken one official visit thus far. We know he will visit West Virginia next month for sure. But between hoops, the all-star game, and a West Virginia visit, Pryor will be hard pressed to be able to actually make all five official visits.

Then again, he may not need to. He has been to Penn State enough to know what the Nittany Lions have to offer, leaving potential visits to Knoxville, Eugene and maybe Gainesville. Now I am not saying that he will not visit Joe Paterno and Penn State. I am merely speculating that if time is of the essence, he may not have to and want to see someone else instead.

There is something else to consider here. He doesn’t have to sign on National Signing Day. He could extend this thing and even take some visits after February 6th. Former two-sport (football/basketball) sensation Ronald Curry did just that. In fact, he didn’t make his decision until the spring (he signed with North Carolina). Pryor contends though that he will make his decision on National Signing Day.

What will Terrelle Pryor do in the end? I don’t know. From the outside looking in I think distance will play a factor. Obviously the offensive scheme, basketball and relationships will also dictate his decision. Many think it will be Ohio State. Many think it will be West Virginia or Penn State. I don’t know what he will do and I don’t think at this time Pryor knows either.

And Oregon picked up a commit from a 4-star QB...and RRod is the leading candidate for the UM job...

One by one the competition will keep whitling away until there is only one schools left...

Pryor scores 4 TDs, passes for another in 49-21 Jeannette win
By GENARO C. ARMAS
(AP)

Too big, too fast, too explosive.

Led by standout quarterback Terrelle Pryor, Jeannette's big-play offense raced past overmatched Dunmore 49-21 on Saturday to win the PIAA Class AA championship.

Pryor, one of the nation's most sought-after recruits, ran for 209 yards and three touchdowns, passed for another TD, and caught a score as well. Jordan Hall scored three times and threw the touchdown to Pryor.

DUNMORE DEMOLISHED: Jeannette Wins #642, State Gold

HERSHEY, Pa. - Perhaps the entire season story for the Jeannette Jayhawks was summed up by Terrelle Pryor's father, Craig.

"The feeling of last year losing - it stuck hard," the elder Pryor said.

"Now, he's (Terrelle) accomplished what he set out to do, and that's a great feeling (as a parent)."

Craig watched from the sidelines as Jeannette (16-0) exorcised the demons of last year's one-point loss as the Jayhawks drubbed Dunmore (14-2) 49-21 at Hersheypark Stadium to win the PIAA Class "AA" state title.

"I hope it's a program win," said Jeannette head coach Ray Reitz, who improved to 38-4 in his career. "Let's hope we can get back."

The 5,900 people in attendance witnessed yet another great performance by Terrelle Pryor, and another 500-yard offensive performance from Jeannette, which rolled up 506 yards on the day.

Pryor literally did a little bit of everything. He ran for 209 yards and 3 touchdowns; passed for 83 yards and another score; caught a 28-yard touchdown pass, and recorded 7 tackles and a sack from his safety position on defense.

Pryor also handled the kickoffs, doing the honors 5 times and averaging 44 yards per kick. He even booted the pigskin 62 yards for a touchback.

Pryor a monster talent anywhere on field
Jeannette's do-it-all quarterback accounted for five TDs in a Class AA title-game rout.
By Keith Pompey
Inquirer Staff Writer

HERSHEY - After leading Jeannette to yesterday's PIAA Class AA football state title, Terrelle Pryor tried to navigate his way through a bevy of well-wishers at HersheyPark Stadium.
He didn't get very far.

Following his five-touchdown performance in the Jayhawks' 49-21 win over Dunmore, the star quarterback was in high demand.

Some sought out his autograph. Others wanted hugs. And a few just longed for an up-close glimpse of the 6-foot-6, 235-pound sensation.

Deep down inside, they all wondered what college coaches and recruiting analysts are wondering: Where will he end up in college?

"I don't even know yet," said Pryor, who has barrel loads of scholarship offers. "I'm just focusing on taking a week off. Then I will be breaking into" basketball.

For now, Penn State, Ohio State, Oregon, Florida and West Virginia are on Pryor's short list.

He scratched Tennessee yesterday morning.

Pryor's connection to the Volunteers was former Tennessee assistant head coach David Cutcliffe. Cutcliffe, an offensive guru, informed Pryor yesterday morning that he had accepted the head-coaching position at Duke.

"That was my main man," Pryor said. 'I mean, I love Cutcliffe. We just got along. Once he's gone, it's done."

Whichever college program he does choose, Pryor will be a blessing to more than the football team. A five-star prospect in football and basketball, he expects to play both sports on the next level.

"Whatever happens, happens," he said of the double-duty.

Football, however, will be his area of concentration.

Pryor really is that good
12/16/2007

HERSHEY ? The truth is that it wasn?t fair. For as good as the national media billed Terrelle Pryor to be, it turned out that he was better. For as fast and as elusive as he looked on film, he looked darn near untouchable in person.

For a guy legendary for being able to do a lot of things well on a football field, it sure looked like he could do everything ? and do it all in a spectacular way.

Some things, you just have to see to believe. The Terrelle Pryor Show is one of them.

Pryor and Jeannette marched into HersheyPark Stadium on Saturday afternoon and promptly mercy-ruled Dunmore, 49-21, to claim the PIAA Class AA championship.

Together, they amassed 505 yards of total offense.

They scored a touchdown on their first play from scrimmage, and they moseyed on into the end zone three times in the last 4:15 of the first half.

They averaged a rather preposterous 12.6 yards every time they snapped the ball.

And still, it was hard to imagine any Class AA team ? in this state or any state ? could have played them any smarter defensively than Dunmore did.

?If we played a little better game, maybe (the score) would have been closer,? Bucks running back Michael Perry said. ?But you have to play nearly perfect to be in the game with these guys.?

That, in a nutshell, is why Terrelle Pryor is so great, why with all the talented high school senior football players there are in this football-crazed nation, recruiting Web site Rivals.com ranks none of them ahead of Jeannette?s 6-foot-6, 235-pound quarterback.

Jeannette's Pryor as good as advertised

A horde of guys armed with recorders, microphones and cameras did what Dunmore couldn't on Saturday afternoon. They contained Terrelle Pryor.

In his final high school game, Pryor ran all over the synthetic turf at Hersheypark Stadium as Jeannette routed Dunmore 49-21 in the PIAA Class 2A championship game.

When he took off his game jersey amid the postgame celebration, you almost expected a large ''S'' to appear on Pryor's chest because he was once again Superman for the Jayhawks (16-0).

Pryor probably will announce his decision on his own Web site --www.terrellepryor.org.

Pryor makes Jeannette super

What do you find more exciting, a double skinny vente latte from Starbucks or watching Superman fly?

Most people, except the Seattle snobs, would probably opt for the Man of Steel.

Saturday, Hershey offered visitors that choice just a quarter-mile apart for about the same $8 price. The 5,911 people who chose Superman -- the Jeannette Jayhawks -- at Hersheypark Stadium made the better choice.

Jeannette's Pryor eliminates Tennessee
By Paul Schofield
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Sunday, December 16, 2007

Jeannette's Terrelle Pryor said he is no longer considering going to Tennessee after Tennessee assistant David Cutcliffe called him to say he was accepting the head coaching job at Duke.
"If Cutcliffe leaves, I'm not going to Tennessee," Pryor said.

Tennessee, Ohio State, Penn State, West Virginia, Florida and Oregon were on Pryor's final list.

"Now that the season is over, I'll start looking at different programs," Pryor said. "That's what I've been waiting for."

Pryor said he had not heard that West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez was looking at the Michigan job. He did not answer when asked if Michigan would be added to his list if Rodriguez left WVU.

Pryor also confirmed that former Pitt players Larry Fitzgerald and Darrelle Revis called him this week, but he has said he is not considering Pitt.

NATION'S NO. 1 RECRUIT: Vince Young-eqsque QB says, 'Add Michigan to my list'
December 16, 2007

By DUSTIN FRUCCI
FREE PRESS SPECIAL WRITER

Terrelle Pryor, the No. 1 high school football recruit in America according to Rivals.com, has added Michigan to the list of schools he might choose to attend because of its new coach.

Pryor, a 6-6, 235-pound dual-threat quarterback with 4.4 speed out of Jeannette, Pa., broke the news about West Virginia?s Rich Rodriguez taking the Michigan head-coaching job.

"I just spoke to Coach Rodriguez ? he told me he is going to Michigan," Pryor told Superprep.com Sunday afternoon. "He said they made him an offer and he can't refuse it."

Later, Pryor told Rivals.com: "He called me this morning and told me before he announced to anyone. He said he's keeping the same offense that he had at West Virginia because it's all he knows. I love that offense. I told him I was very interested."

Pryor, who listed Florida, Ohio State, Penn State, Oregon and West Virginia as his favorites to attend as of Sunday, told Superprep.com to ?add Michigan to my list? following his conversation with Rodriguez.

"He's excited and so was I," Pryor told rivals.com. "Michigan was on my early list, and now their right up there again. He's a great coach and I like his offense."

Hooker: QB recruits swayed by Cutcliffe's departure
By Dave Hooker (Contact)
Sunday, December 16, 2007

Offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe?s departure from Tennessee to Duke has seriously damaged the Vols? chances to land elite quarterback Terrelle Pryor from Jeannette (Pa.) High School.

?Tennessee is still in the mix, but on the back burner,? Jeannette coach Ray Reitz told the News Sentinel on Sunday. ?They were moving close to No. 1 with Cutcliffe there. He (Pryor) had a good relationship with Cutcliffe. There was a lot of interest in Tennessee.?

With less than two months until national signing day, the Vols have some serious ground to make up to be serious players in the Pryor chase again. It was Cutcliffe?s experience with Peyton and Eli Manning that drew Pryor to the Vols.

?That?s one of the reasons he wanted to go there and learn from him,? Reitz said. ?? He liked Coach (Phillip) Fulmer, but Coach Cutcliffe?s pedigree was big.?

Pryor also downgraded West Virginia on Sunday, Reitz said, because former Mountaineers coach Rich Rodriquez is headed to Michigan. Now, Reitz said he expects Pryor to take a hard look at Michigan, and consider Florida and Ohio State.

Pryor drops West Virginia from list, adds Michigan
Monday, December 17, 2007
By Mike White, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
West Virginia is out of the Terrelle Pryor sweepstakes and Michigan is in.
That's some of the recruiting fallout from Rich Rodriguez's decision to leave West Virginia University to become the new coach at Michigan.
West Virginia was one of the five finalists on the list for Pryor, highly touted quarterback at Jeannette High School. His others were Ohio State, Florida, Penn State and Tennessee, although he said yesterday that he has crossed Tennessee off his list and might consider Oregon.
But upon learning of Rodriguez's move, Pryor said, "Michigan is back on my list."
When asked where West Virginia now stands, he said, "West Virginia is off."
Pryor said Rodriguez and his spread option offense were the main reasons he was considering West Virginia. He also said he liked West Virginia assistant Tony Gibson, who was recruiting Pryor. Gibson is expected to go with Rodriguez to Michigan.

High School Football Notebook: No rest for Jeannette as basketball begins
Monday, December 17, 2007
By Mike White, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Terrelle Pryor wore a Jeannette High School football jersey for the last time Saturday afternoon. Yesterday afternoon, the star quarterback was on the phone with the school's basketball coach, wanting to know if he could get into the gym.
"He called me and wanted to know if he could come in the gym and shoot some," Jeannette coach Jim Nesser said.
Basketball season can now start at Jeannette because the school finally has a team. All but one of Jeannette's basketball players were on the football team that won the PIAA Class AA title Saturday. Jeannette had postponed its first five games because of football.
Jeannette's season will start Wednesday at home with a section game against Freeport, and the Jayhawks will play Friday at home against Ford City. Jeannette was the Post-Gazette's preseason No. 1 WPIAL Class AA team and has a big non-section game Saturday against No. 2 Beaver Falls in the Aliquippa Giant Eagle Holiday Festival at Robert Morris' Sewall Center.
"We're going to have a team meeting [today] and let the kids shoot around a little," Nesser said. "That's pretty much what we'll do all week. We won't do much physically."
Pryor is one of the best basketball players in the area. He averaged 20 points last year and has scored 1,658 career points.

Hiring of Rodriguez changes Pryor race
Michigan suddenly on QB recruit's list
Monday, December 17, 2007 3:06 AM
By Tim May

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

As soon as Rich Rodriguez said yesterday that he is leaving West Virginia to coach Michigan, the Wolverines jumped into the derby for the nation's No. 1 prospect, quarterback Terrelle Pryor of Jeannette, Pa. That puts Rodriguez toe-to-toe with Ohio State right off the bat, because the Buckeyes have long been one of the serious contenders to land the 6-foot-6 quarterback.

Hiring appeals to prep QB
With Rodriguez's innovative offense now in fold, acclaimed recruit reportedly is considering Michigan.
Eric Lacy / The Detroit News

Much of Michigan's immediate offensive success under Rich Rodriguez could be based on whether he lands Terrelle Pryor, considered by many recruiting analysts as the nation's top quarterback.

Pryor, a 6-foot-6, 220-pound high school senior, apparently has placed the Wolverines on his short list now that Rodriguez is bound for Michigan. The Jeannette, Pa., native has considered West Virginia, along with Ohio State, Florida and others before it was known Rodriguez would be taking his spread offense to Ann Arbor.

Pryor was unavailable Sunday for comment, but his godfather, Willie Burns, who lives with the player, believes it's a wide-open race for the player's services.

"He's up and he's down, he's up and he's down again," Burns said of Pryor's college choices. "He hasn't really made up his mind. He may decide to not consider West Virginia anymore. It's hard to tell right now."

Burns confirmed that Pryor recently crossed off Tennessee and Penn State from his list.

Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Pryor would be real jackpot for Michigan

December 17, 2007

Gerry Ahern
Rivals.com College Football

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - It wasn't long into Rich Rodriguez's introductory news conference Monday as the new football coach at Michigan when he made one point abundantly clear.

He wasn't here to discuss bygone days in West Virginia or the circumstances behind his unexpected and sudden departure from the Mountaineers.

"I don't think there's any need to do that," Rodriguez, a native of Grant Town, W.Va. and former WVU player drawled before spinning into an anecdote.

He was just handed the keys to the winningest program in college football history. And, as Rivals.com reported Sunday, he's got a bead on bringing the top recruit in the nation - dual threat quarterback Terrelle Pryor - to the Big House to run his souped-up spread option offense and drive other coaches in the Big Ten and around the nation absolutely bananas.

Perhaps no one more than Ohio State's Jim Tressel.

Pryor is now reportedly considering the Buckeyes, Wolverines and Florida Gators as his college destination. The winner gets the 6-foot-6, 235-pound burner from Jeannette, Pa. and potentially a whole lot more. Pryor has built relationships with several of Ohio State's current commitments and could, in theory, change some of their paths from Columbus to Ann Arbor.
