WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

WR Strategy for 2007 and 2008

Ok, after all the discussion about the loss and everyone airing their opinions, I would like to offer a suggestion for next year's team. Assuming Ginn and Gonzo returns, we learn from the mistakes of this game. I read the Despatch today about why Ginn's injury allowed FU to put additional pressure on Troy Smith.

Gators coach Urban Meyer said Ginn's absence allowed Florida to better cover the Buckeyes' remaining wideouts and put more pressure on Smith. That's where Florida likely won the game. Defensive ends Derrick Harvey (three sacks) and Jarvis Moss (two) harassed Smith into a 4-of-14 passing night for 35 yards, with no touchdowns and one interception.

I may be stating the obvious here but if we had a few more WRs with great speed and hands, loosing a single WR would have less of an impact. In addition to Ginn, Gonzo, Hartline, Robiskie, next years recruits includes the likes of Saine, Washington, and Sanzenbacher and all have excellent speed and hands. Saine is a RB but can be used a WR out of the backfield. If you have more than one WR threat lined up with blazing speed, the defense wouldn't be able to "better cover" the remaining WRs and therefore put additional pressure on the QB.

Our offense was uninspired and it appeared we couldn't adapt our offensive game without Ginn.

utgrad73, the point you're making speaks for itself. Look at this years corps of receivers and it's almost unthinkable that we actually could have still had Holmes here. But, Ginn will go and Hall is out of eligibility. Gonzo is 50/50 at best. Ray Small is the guy who is going to really have to step it up, and I believe that he will. Peace.

Cute story, Ted could be in a very exclusive club:

Though reports differ, early word Monday evening was that while celebrating the dazzling touchdown score, the Buckeyes' most explosive offensive weapon since Joey Galloway tweaked his ankle. Within minutes, the All-Big 10 performer was limping off the field behind the end zone and into the trainer's office. He spent the rest of the game on the sidelines, hobbling on a crutch, with his ankle in an ominous black boot. The Buckeyes' human highlight film never returned. Ginn's final stat line? One play, a 93-yard kickoff return for a TD. No receptions, no carries, no punt returns. Just that one, lone play. And of course, the fateful celebration.

Here are five other notable celebration-related sports injuries:

1. Bill Gramatica: You've seen the highlight 100 times. Over the past five years, this one's become the standard for stupid sports injuries. Following a 42-yard field goal kicked into stiff Giants Stadium winds in 2001, Bill Gramatica ? the exuberant middle brother of the Gramatica kicking family ? jumped for joy in celebration. As his teammates joined him, Gramatica abruptly fell to the ground, clutching the back of his right leg. Gramatica hyperextended his right knee, ultimately missing the rest of the 2001 season as a result. His career was never the same afterwards. Worse off, the Cardinals lost the game 17-13, severely hurt by the fact they didn't have a kicker down the stretch.

2. Gus Frerotte

Sorry, I didn't mean to exclude him. My point was to establish more depth in the receiver corp and keep the defense on their toes. Hall may be the guy to step up, IMO we are rich in WRs in the next year or two.

Again I'll reiterate that Hall is a 5th year senior.

This isn't fair at all. Peavy and Ginn shouldn't be included with the dipshit likes of Gramatica and Frerotte. They didn't do it to themselves.

UTGRAD73 I hope all the people who minimized Teddy's absence in the contributing to our downfall on Monday night read that quote from Urban himself. I have (with others here) been stating all along that this was a devastating loss for us.

Mine wasn't a complete meltdown. Not if you consider open sobbing, self-inflicting pain, shampooing with Nair, stabbing plush gators with a hunting knife, etc a partial meltdown.

Hey, I just say the 2006 Buckeyes are still undefeated, but the 2007 Buckeyes got off to a rocky start.

I just hope to God that Teddy's injury is minor, and heals completely quickly. Missing a huge game and then losing it is one thing, and then hindering a guy's career is quite another. Whether he stays or goes, I hope that he recovers as fast as he does everything else  .

Good way to look at it. I feel the same way. I spent the game the lone Buckeye in a sea of Gators here in south florida at a bar on the beach. I knew it was over by halftime, and the gator fans I was with were buying me drinks to "console" me. Yes, I am disappointed, but this season was a good one. Looking forward to see what the 2007 Buckeyes can do!!!
