WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

Heisman Week: Breaking down the candidates

http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/story/9440869

Ted Ginn Jr., WR/KR, Ohio State, Jr.: His Heisman bid began in January's Fiesta Bowl. Ginn's 167 receiving yards against Notre Dame in the Fiesta were more than a quarter of his season total coming into the game. Reason why Ginn won't continue to be a track-star freak show: He's smarter. Ohio State has plenty to go around him. He's playing for an NFL contract.

Reason why Ginn won't continue to be a track-star freak show:

I guess they're trying to pay him a compliment with this quote, but TGII was never, ever simply "a track-star freak show".

It takes a rare combination of vision, power, speed, and "moves" to do what he does, whether on a punt return, reverse, or recieving TD. And he was the best rank CB coming out of high school. Don't tell me you can just plug in a "speedy track guy" and have yourself even a good Cornerback in football.

I'm (plesently) surprised to see that he is the 4th (tie with Hart & Leak) place favorite to win the Heisman with the gamblers:

Quinn 2 1/2 : 1
Peterson 4 : 1
Smith 8 : 1
Ginn 15 : 1
Hart 15 : 1
Leak 15 : 1

CFN's 2006 Heisman favorites....

Heisman favorites 1-20

6. WR Ted Ginn, Jr., Ohio State – Forecasters predicting a Heisman in Ginn’s future may have been a year off. He never mounted a challenge in a disappointing sophomore season, but 2006 figures to be more promising. Ginn, coaches say, has really stepped up his game in the off-season and on speed alone, he’s a candidate for six every time the ball is in his hands.

I think Peterson is the early fav. in my opinion. Oklahoma is going to be a very good squad this season. I compare them to OSU of last season, only with a more polished tailback, and a little less talent at qb and at lb.
I would agree....except the Heisman is all about hype, and nothing says hype like a finally respectable NA team lead by a very good QB. If Quinn played for anybody else, I would say Peterson is the fav.

His numbers should be much better this season just considering that the ball is gonna be in his hands all of the time now because Holmes is gone.I think that he will step up though.

How in the world does

Willie Tuitama (Arizona) +10,000

even make the list? It should be like +10,000,000, b/c there's no way in the world he'll win the Heisman.

I agree but he's the one that completely turned around Arizona's season. During the Oregon game Arizona took out their starter and put in Willie and after that they were much more competitive including beating a top 10 UCLA at the time 56-14. No chance he wins the Heisman though.

Stoops is turning the program around. Every year they get closer to winning. If this is their breakout year,,, Hell, they would have to go to the NC but I would put the odds at that around +10,000. It seems about right.

Ginn will be the man. He will have a huge target on him - again. However, the supporting cast is still excellent so you can't just focus on stopping Ginn. He needs to run better routes, which it sounds like is happening with the reports from spring ball. He also needs to stop muffing punts. Good routes and soft hands will get him invited to New York. (he might not win with just those two things but he will be invited).
