Orchard Lake St. Mary’s senior Taurian Washington is close to announcing his commitment to play college football next year. Washington is expected to make his announcement in mid-August, shortly after St. Mary’s begins practicing.
Internet reports surfaced last week claiming that, after receiving a scholarship offer from Ohio State, Washington had verbally committed to the Buckeyes. A source close to St. Mary’s football also told the Eccentric that Washington had committed to OSU on July 26. However, Washington’s father, Al Williams, denied that Washington had committed, but stated that Washington would announce a decision in mid-August.
“He’s still undecided,” Williams said, adding that Washington was “ready to get it out of the way.”
Williams confirmed that Washington did receive an offer from Ohio State.
Washington is one of several St. Mary’s seniors being heavily recruited by Division I football schools. Cornerback Dionte Allen tops the list, reportedly holding offers from Michigan, Ohio State, Florida State, Miami and USC, among others. Quarterback Justin Siller and linebacker Alex Delisi have also drawn serious D-I interest. St. Mary’s athletic officials are hopeful that most, or all, of these players will make verbal commitments as soon as possible, in order to avoid distractions during the football season.
If Washington does commit to the Buckeyes, he’d be following in the footsteps of former Eaglet teammate Aaron Gant, who signed with OSU in February.
A speedy wide receiver, Washington transferred to St. Mary’s last year after Detroit St. Martin DePorres closed. He caught 16 passes for 479 yards and seven touchdowns in the regular season for the Eaglets.
