Brian Hartline says Jeremiah Smith “never wavered” from his commitment to Ohio State and James Peoples attends the Buckeyes’ Cotton Bowl practice on Wednesday.

Hartline also took the time to praise Mylan Graham, the Buckeyes’ other five-star wide receiver signee in the 2024 class.

“Mylan (Graham), one heck of a football player,” Hartline said. “Talk about a guy that knew where he wanted to go, came and saw us a lot. He made no gripe about going anywhere else or whatever. His process was very different than Jeremiah (Smith), which is fine. They are both right in their own way.

“But I'm very thrilled to have him. He's been at camp a handful of times. He came to camp and worked with me multiple times. I feel like he's already a part of the room. Excited to be (with him) in June. He'll be a June guy. So we have to do a good job through the summer catching him up. He's a quick study. He will do a good job.”

IMMEDIATE IMPACT​

Graham's first season in Columbus will likely be one to develop both on the practice field and in the weight room. While he is one of the best wide receivers in the 2024 class, he won't join the Buckeyes until June. He will likely have at least four wide receivers ahead of him in the pecking order with Emeka Egbuka, Carnell Tate, Brandon Inniss and Smith expected to lead the room.

Given his five-star talent, Graham could prove during the summer and fall camp that he deserves a spot on the two-deep. But he might need a year before he becomes a staple in the rotation.

LONG-TERM IMPACT​

With Egbuka entering his final season as a Buckeye, Graham should be a candidate to earn significant playing time by his sophomore season in 2025. While he will still have to prove his worth in a loaded group of wideouts, Graham's speed, acceleration and route-running ability will give him a chance to make some noise as a sophomore and beyond.

Eventually, Graham projects to be a leader of Ohio State’s wide receiver room as a junior and/or senior. He projects to play the Z receiver position primarily, though he has the versatility to move inside and also play slot receiver.

Hope this young man can handle riding the pine until it's time. One of those who've been on the field since he was a six year old, methinks. Takes a bit of wisdom to sit, learn, get stronger, learn the offense, and watch those ahead of you, take coaching, ask your peers for help/advice, and put in the time. I probably couldn't do it, but it's a certain route to the NFL if done properly. Stay the course, Mylan. You're time is coming. Two years, tops. Go Bucks!

Who do you guys think is higher in the pecking order? Graham or Rodgers? I saw Rodgers on the field a fair amount this past year, I dont think I saw Graham at all. He is only a freshman though that had a late start.

And watch out for Porter. Seems like that kid is going to be a stud. Finished out the 2025 cycle as a 5-Star and the composite number 20 player on 247 (higher than Innis, Tate, and Graham in their respective classes).

It is going to be a battle, but if Mylan puts in the work this offseason I think he will certainly be in the mix behind JJ/Tate/Innis. I would also expect Rodgers to be right there and probably Porter...agreed Porter is a stud and could be one of the next great WRs here.

That is one of the great things about Hartline, Inc. Even the most talented HS guys don't have to be rushed and they know it and they come anyway. The guys he gets want to be great and they're smart enough to know that there are a ton of physical freaks at WR who never make the jump from good to great or great to elite. That's what they get here and when they're ready, they get on the field.
