WR Michael Floyd (Arizona Cardinals)

Bad news for Brewster

I can't imagine Brewster receiving worse news.

I am sure he knew going in that the team was not loaded with NFL talent. I am also sure he knew he was going to fight an uphill battle.

But I do know that he has made much inroads with MN highschool football. Mason was like Cooper; he was alienating some coaches/programs/parents. While talent in the upper midwest is not as strong this year (according to some analysts)... if you look at Scout's top 10 for the state 7 have verballed and six of those are to MN.

The staff is obviously trying to raise the level of talent in the program and are trying their best for Floyd and Mobley. But Floyd's comments are a red flag to other recruits as well. (I suspect ND will win it in the end) How Brewster chooses to go after Floyd and mitigate any collatoral damage will be interesting.

Geeeeeeeeze, you had me worried with your title... be careful about appropriately labeling "Brewster." In 2007 and beyond, Brewster has generally come to mean the fearless leader of the Brew Crew...
:oh:

This is tough news for Minny, though I hope they hadn't hitched their wagon too tightly to Floyd's star.

As for the defensive backs, Floyd said, "I'm looking for more competition, people that can make me better. I want to go up against better DBs in practice everyday."

2007 Class
1.Texas
2.South Carolina
3.Ohio State
4.LSU
5.Michigan
6.Florida
7.West Virginia
8.Tennessee
9.Miami
and I am sure that we get a 4 or 5 star this year.

How's that for better DB's

U still in running for receiver Floyd
Last update: July 11, 2007 ? 10:00 PM

Cretin-Derham Hall star wide receiver Michael Floyd said Wednesday night he is still considering seven colleges, including the Gophers, despite reports he has narrowed his list of schools.
Reached at home after returning from an AAU basketball tournament in Kentucky, Floyd said his finalists are Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Florida, Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin

U doesn't measure up for Floyd
Cretin-Derham Hall star knocks Gophers' 'atmosphere,' DB talent after unofficial visit

Floyd said he still is considering Minnesota, but the Gophers are not among his top four choices. He listed Florida, Notre Dame, Michigan and Ohio State - followed by the Gophers, Iowa and Wisconsin on a second tier.

Cretin-Derham Hall quarterback John Nance, a close friend of Floyd's, said he was not surprised to learn that Floyd is wavering about Minnesota.

"I didn't think he was interested that much in Minnesota," said Nance, who was offered a scholarship by Brewster for the fall of 2008. "He seems to be more comfortable with the schools that he already had a relationship with. All I've heard him talk about is Florida, Ohio State or Notre Dame."

Per Mike Farrell on Rivals Radio, Mike Floyd will likely committ in the next month and likely will be a Domer.

Not that this is unexpected, but Farrell thinks it is the Domers by a large margin right now, especially with Floyd eliminating Minnesota (aka putting them in his second tier w/ Iowa) recently.

If going against better DBs in order to make himself better is really one of the criteria, then why ND? I mean, their DBs are simply awful.

Trust me, they've been bad, I hear you. I watched the same Fiesta Bowl that you did. But they are starting to fix that through recruiting. The past two years they've brought in four 4 star DBs, along with two more that have verballed in this class - worlds of difference when compared to the old regime. Plus, their new DC was the secondary coach with the Jets, so I'm willing to bet he'll be a boost for that unit as well.

Again, not saying that its anything like the Buckeye secondary, or that it's an established fixture for the defense yet. But the future at DB is brighter than the past.

But in the grand scheme of things, opposing DBs is probably a footnote in his decision.

Completely agree and I'm sure Mr. Flyod can see that which is why ND is still in the pitcure (and probably leading). I have no doubt that ND's defense will improve. They are clearly starting to bring in the talent. It may take a year or two, since they are young and unproven. They can ONLY get better than what they've had over the last few years.

I don't think we'll get Floyd, but we're not depending on getting him. We already have a similar player that's just as talented in Posey. Floyd would be icing on the cake at this point(maybe even sprinkles if Thomas commits by September).

Notre Dame NEEDS to get Floyd because their WR recruiting has been less than stellar last year and this year.

The emergence of Lamaar Thomas as a possible WR target will help to ease the possible loss of Floyd. Plus, I think I'm even more excited about the potential of Thomas and the initals LT usually mean good things.

A little early to talk down about this year's crop, since ND does have a 4 star at WR in the fold, and it is still pretty early, but other than that you're right on the $$$. Floyd was one of the three September 1st offers allowed by NCAA rules for juniors in HS, so they made him a top priority right off the bat. Him and Filer are virtual must gets for ND.

As for OSU, they should be more than fine at WR. Stoneburner and Posey is a great way to start, to the point that they'd actually be ok without any more WR IMO. I'm sure Buckeye fans would like to see a 3rd hop on board, but I don't see it as a necessity. Would that be a fair assessment?

Actually, the Buckeye staff would probably take all of the following: Koger (TE); Stoneburner (flex-TE); Posey (WR); Fuller (WR); Scott (WR or safety); and Thomas (WR or athlete). That's a pretty big receiver class, but all six guys are super-talented, so it would be difficult to say "no" to any of them.
