WR Jeremiah Smith (Official Thread)

SKULL SESSION: WILL HOWARD SAYS OHIO STATE IS “TIRED OF HEARING HOW TALENTED WE ARE” AND JEREMIAH SMITH SAYS HE WANTS TO “WIN GAMES AND WIN THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP”

LABOR AND ITS FRUIT. King interviewed more Buckeyes than Howard on Friday. One of them was freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, who – in case you haven’t heard – had an excellent winter, spring and summer at Ohio State. Nevertheless, Smith understands how much hard work remains before the 2024 season starts.

“You have guys that have been here like Emeka (Egbuka), Carnell Tate and Brandon Inniss who have been here,” Smith told King. “If I have to wait my time, I’ll have to wait my time. If Marvin Harrison (Jr.) did it, why can’t I do it? It’s coming in and being the best teammate I can be and supporting them when they go out there and play.”

“I come in each and every day and want to be the best player I can be. I give my all every day in practice. I show the coaches that they are able to trust me out there on Saturdays,” Smith said. “I know the pressure and hype around me is high, but I don’t feed into that. I just want to play football, win games and win the national championship.”

LOVE this mentality!

I love how the culture of success and humility is passed down in this program. JJ knows damn well who came before him and he seems very focused on trying to be the next great, but not expecting it. That is how Marv approached it and it turned out pretty great for him. You can't completely ignore the hype, but you just acknowledge it and keep grinding. He might have to wait his turn in terms of being "the guy", but he's going to play a lot and contribute a lot this season.

There's also some luxury in not having to step in and live up to all the hype right away as a freshman like he would elsewhere. He may not (although he may well) have 1,000 yds, but 300-500 at tOSU is great as a freshman and lays the foundation for a huge sophomore year.

“Holy Shit, That Kid’s Good”: Jeremiah Smith Draws Praise from Ohio State Veterans at Big Ten Media Days

“To be honest, he's like that,” Burke said. “Like, like that, like that. So he's next up, and I'm really excited for just seeing these next couple of years and what he's going to bring to the table for our team this year, too.”
.
.
.
“It's easy to see how talented he is,” Day said. “I think the thing you already recognize, though, is that he's really good at the no-talent things as well. But I'm going to hold off comments until he plays his first snap at Ohio State, then we'll go from there.”
.
.
.
“He's very about his business, very professional kid,” Egbuka said. “I think that's what's most impressive about him because he's the prototypical wide receiver that you would want, but he's mature beyond his years and you don't really have to get on him too much. He's going to work. He's going to keep himself humble. And that's what I love about him.”
.
.
.
“That kid is just special,” Sawyer said. “That's the only word I can use to describe him. Having been in his shoes – meaning being a five-star recruit and having a lot of hype surrounding him coming in – I was like, man, I just wanna see him practice a couple of times. ... Then I saw him for the first time, the first practice, I was like, ‘Holy shit, this kid's good.’”

Above all else, Sawyer’s been impressed with Smith’s work ethic and mentality.

“He's a great young player, he's got a great future ahead of him,” Sawyer said. “He's got a great head on his shoulders, very humble kid. So whatever he gets, he's earned and he's worked for it. So I'm super excited for him.”

“I saw him for the first time, the first practice, I was like, ‘Holy shit, this kid's good.’”– Jack Sawyer on Jeremiah Smith

Jeremiah Smith

Toward the end of practice, Will Howard dropped back to pass and scanned the field. Recognizing Jeremiah Smith had a step on Calvin-Simpson Hunt, Howard tossed the ball in his direction. The pass would have sailed over the head of most wide receivers. But Jeremiah Smith is not most wide receivers. No, the freshman leaped 10 feet in the air, snatched Howard’s pass, landed on both feet and ran 50 yards to the end zone for a touchdown.

Ladies and gentlemen, get used to moments like that from Smith in 2024.

True freshman is already getting starter's rep for the Ohio State football team

The Ohio State football team is already letting a true freshman get starter's rep in practice.

The Ohio State football team has started Fall practice officially. They are in the process of getting ready for the upcoming season. There are still battles to be waged over who will be the starter at certain positions. The offensive line will have the most consequential positional battles.

One spot that is not up for debate is who are the top two receivers heading into the season. Emeka Egbuka is the undisputed number-one receiver. He's likely going to be a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. He's not the only great receiver the Buckeyes have though.

Carnell Tate is going to be the number two guy. He's a former five-star recruit and someone that Ryan Day praised after the first day of practice. Another guy in that room is already getting first-team reps as a true freshman and could already be one of the best offensive players.

Freshman Jeremiah Smith was seen getting starter's reps during the first practice of the year. Of course, it's just the first practice of Fall camp, but that's still notable. Smith was seen as good enough by the coaches in the Spring that they wanted him out there with the first-stringers.

Just sayin': This could be one of the few Freshmen that actually lives up to the hype.

Mariotti described an Iron Buckeye as showcasing "unquestionable training, dedication, determination, discipline, toughness and leadership."

A freshman wins Iron Buckeye for the first time in Ohio State football history

Jeremiah Smith continues to show what a freak of nature he is for the Ohio State football team.

The Ohio State football team is preparing for the season ahead. In doing so, they have to figure out who is deserving of playing time based on the progress them made in the offseason. The Buckeyes certainly have a lot of talent on the offensive side of the ball.

That's especially true at the wide receiver position. One of the players who should get a lot of playing time is true freshman Jeremiah Smith. Smith is getting a ton of hype as a young player and that hype should only increase based on what he was able to accomplish this offseason.

According to current Buckeye Devin Brown, Smith became the first true freshman to ever win the Iron Buckeye. That means he was an absolute freak in the weight room and worked hard to make sure that his body is ready for the college game that he's about to step into.

Despite not playing a game yet, this Ohio State football player is on the Freak List

The Ohio State football program has a player on its team that is already on Bruce Feldman's Freak List despite not having played a game. He's high up too.

The Ohio State football team has a roster full of freaks. The Buckeyes are the second-ranked team in the country for a reason. Both the offense and the defense are filled with some of the most talented players in the country. Because of that, they are one of the favorites to win the national championship.

Bruce Feldman of FOX and the Athletic has a list he creates every year showing the most freakish athletes in the country. These aren't just the best players on a specific team. These are guys who have freakish traits to them. One particular Buckeye has made the list.

That player is true freshman Jeremiah Smith. Smith hasn't yet played a collegiate game, but he still has the most hype surrounding him of perhaps any other freshman in the country. He was the number-one recruit in the country and is now high up on Feldman's Freak List.

Ohio State football player Jeremiah Smith is seventh on the Freak List

Smith is already seventh on Feldman's Freak list. Again, Smith hasn't taken a college snap yet. His physical traits are what put him on this list though. As a true freshman, he comes in at 6'3 and 215 pounds. He's also a freak in the weight room and in training.

On the bench press, Smith can put up 355 pounds. He squats 530. He can jump 36 inches high and runs just over 23 mph when sprinting. He's a specimen of which the college football world has hardly seen. All of that power and speed will make him a nightmare for opposing defenses.
