WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba (2022 Rose Bowl MVP, Seattle Seahawks)

Day deserves a LOT of criticism but JFC the injury report nazi shit is the dumbest fucking thing.

If you’re mad that you’re not getting clear and detailed health updates of the players to the point you’re verbally critical of their toughness…in a sport as violent and exploitative as college football..then you’ve got to step the fuck back and gain perspective….shit’s embarrassing
Thats fantastic. But there are ass hole fans whether you like that or not.

I don't believe I've critiqued JSN or anyone else for sitting out because I know the grind of a college football season. However, maybe it would save our guys some grief they get from the morons who do voice their frustrations directly via Twitter etc.

Frustrations because they have no idea what it's like to play a 10 game football season (let alone 12+ games). Maybe some clarity would ease some of those frustrations.

JSN has been getting it from more than moron fans. People who have a media platform not just Twitter ..Day has hurt his own credibility about injuries if you’re betting tOSU don’t go by midweek press conferences wait till the inactives come out. There will be players out against Georgia we think might play today. It’s happened every game this season.

And everytime it's someone impactful. This football team hasn't been at full strength since basically fall camp.

OSU doesn't disclose much injury information so perhaps we should respect that we don't know what we don't know.

Well, there’s “respect what we don’t know” and then there’s the head coach saying shit like “he tweaked it [again?].” Doesn’t sound like it was a “tweak”, then, was it?

I fault Day. Somebody else said it on this thread… if a player is seriously injured, then don’t make it sound during your weekly interviews that the player’s status is a “game time decision” or that the player is “fine, but we just have him on a pitch count right now.”

That’s just asking for trouble for fans to pile on your players. It’s making it look like the players are fine, but just holding out somehow.

That's my biggest complaint about how he's handled it. Don't want to disclose injuries? Fine. But don't be deceitful or misleading. A simple "no comment" will suffice

2023 NFL Draft: Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Jordan Addison highlight Mel Kiper's top wide receivers

Kiper’s Take: "I'm with Jaxon Smith-Njigba still. My attitude is, if I loved him in August, I'm not going to get off of him during a year where he had a hamstring that lingered throughout the entire season. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, in 2021, was outstanding. Talk about tape — you go back to 2021. It doesn't lie. The eye in the sky never lies. And bottom line is, in 2021, he lit it up. What he did against Utah was pretty amazing, in that Rose Bowl Game.”

Smith-Njigba injured his hamstring in the season opener against Notre Dame and tried to play in later games against Toledo and Iowa, though it was clear he was not 100%. He did not play outside of that in the regular season and, after talking with specialists, was unable to go in Ohio State’s College Football Playoff experience. Because of all this, people may forget about Smith-Njigba. The sport is not too far removed from pundits dubbing him as the best wide receiver in college football, and there is a good chance that NFL teams still have plenty of love for him.

JSN CAN REMIND EVERYONE HOW GOOD HE IS

The last time Smith-Njigba played a full game healthy, he had one of the greatest individual performances in college football history, setting Rose Bowl records with 15 catches for 347 yards and three touchdowns. Problem is, that game was 14 months ago.

Smith-Njigba never got to put his skills on full display during his final season at Ohio State, and his draft projections have varied as a result. Many mock drafts have him falling into the late first round and a few have him out of the first round altogether. Before the season, however, Smith-Njigba was widely projected to be a top-15 pick – and that could become the case once again if he can remind everyone how good he is with his combine workout.

Most importantly, Smith-Njigba needs to show he is fully recovered from the hamstring injury that sidelined him for nearly all of the 2022 season. If he is, he should shine in receiver drills with his route-running skill and hands that caught just about everything thrown his way as a Buckeye. He should excel in timed tests like the 20-yard shuttle and 3-cone drill that test players’ quickness and ability to change directions.

Running a fast 40-yard dash time will also be important for Smith-Njigba to answer lingering questions about his speed. Anything under 4.5 seconds should safely put those questions to rest, while a time of 4.45 seconds or faster would certainly give his draft stock a jolt.

Ohio State's Jaxon Smith-Njigba will be back on the field and take part in the workouts at the NFL Combine this week. Smith-Njigba confirmed while speaking to the media at the Combine on Friday that he will do everything but the 40-yard dash, as he wants more practice reps running. He will run the 40-yard dash at OSU's Pro Day on March 22.

He stood out with elite times in the 3-cone and the 20-yard shuttle Drills.

cbs

Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Ohio State: Smith-Njigba missed most of the season with a nagging injury, so it was good to see him back on the field. He did not do any athletic testing beyond the vertical and broad jumps. However, his route-running was crisp and he caught everything cleanly. He ran a 6.57-second 3-cone drill, which was nearly 0.3 seconds quicker than the next fastest. His 3.93-second 20-yard shuttle was nearly 0.2 seconds quicker than the next fastest. Smith-Njigba was an elite tester in change of direction drills. His stock may jump up a bit, but it could really skyrocket with a fast 40-yard dash time at his Pro Day.

So he's elite at the most important aspects of being a WR, but these dumbass "scouts" need to see a fast 40 for his stock to skyrocket? Morons
Film is all anyone needs to see. That and he's able to walk without pain. These "tests" are irrelevant to being good at the sport. Might show explosive play potential but beating actual opponents is always the best measure
