WR Devon Lyons (official thread)

their fans are still the same.
...and that's where my ill will started. Their hatred for Rodriguez will only keep their hard-on for tOSU down for a little while. After that their inferiority complex will once again rear its ugly head.

As for Devon never got much playing time so he must not be very good. I give you one Roy Hall. Fifth round pick in the NFL draft, and only an injury kept him from playing this year for the defending Super Bowl champions. Yeah...Roy sucks too. :roll1:

Can I be honest here?? Idiotic post. You Sir, have no idea what you are talking about.
You got me all wrong i wasn't trying to disrespect devon. I went to the spring game and he looked great had some nice catches. I for one thought he was going to have a breakout season. I loved his size, we have no receiver thats as big as him. And i know he was hurt, but he played towards the end of the season at the end of some games. And it seems coach tressel gave up on him because he played sanzenbacher and washington ahead of him. Im sure he wasn't 100 perrcent but he still got some pt however it was after the frosh got in. And i guess im wrong on this but i thought most schools shy away from getting transfers that only have one year of eligibility left like devon. I don't know if i recall ohio state in recent memory taking a transfer that only had one year left. But i could be wrong. I think he could do some things at WV but people were saying he was going to be there number one guy in some post And i thought that was a little bash on WV. I think he has more talent than any receiver they have but he would need to learn the system and get healthy. There not wide receiver u but they have some talented guys. And i would love to see lyons go there and get alot of pt but lets not forget he hasn't gotten alot of pt for us. Not saying he a bad player he just has been injured and was burried on the depth chart before that. Nobody wants him to succeed more than me. Sry for any misunderstanding and the long post i wasn't trying to bash on any buckeyes. No disrespect intended. And goodluck devon any what ever you do. Any chance he stays and gets some Playing time next season?:oh::io:

Devon Lyons has been a member of the Ohio State Buckeyes and will have earned a degree here. That is something that nobody can take away from him. Surely, he hasn't experienced all that he hoped to at Ohio State but he has achieved the most important thing, the degree. He can also hold his head high about his abilities on the field. One wonders what might have been without his bad luck.

Devon, we all wish you good luck if you decide to play another year at WVa. You will always be a Buckeye.

Devon Lyons and Albert Dukes are attempting to graduate this spring and leave the Ohio State football program, but that wouldn't necessarily mark the end of their college careers.

The NCAA loophole that allows a graduate student to transfer and play immediately closes Aug. 1. If Lyons and Dukes can graduate this spring and enroll in grad school this summer, they presumably could play next season at another school.

Dukes, a Florida native, has been looking at Valdosta State, in Georgia. Lyons' case is more complicated. The Pennsylvania native's father is ill and he is looking into a hardship waiver that would allow him to play closer to home.

If neither graduates before the deadline, there is a chance they will use their final year of eligibility at Ohio State this fall.

A whisper within the WVU football family is that a transfer might be forthcoming. One that could bolster the receiving corps.

Devon Lyons, the older brother of sophomore Mountaineer Wes, apparently has a year of eligibility left after heretofore playing for Ohio State. The older Lyons could receive a hardship waiver and join WVU this season.

Devon Lyons is listed at 6-4, 214 pounds and played in all 12 Buckeye games as a freshman. He sat out 10 games in 2005 with an ankle injury.

WVU's staff is expecting to know whether Devon Lyons can transfer and play within a week to 10 days.

If he can, don't be surprised if he's a starter at the Z position.

West Virginia's football staff has buttoned up a few commitments from players expected to see time for the Mountaineers as early as this coming season.

WVU has received paperwork clearing tailback Mark Rodgers, wide receiver Devon Lyons and offensive lineman Benji Kemoeatu to join the team.

Lyons, brother of current Mountaineer receiver Wes, is moving from Ohio State after winning a hardship case.

The 6-4, 214-pound Devon Lyons played in all 12 games for the Buckeyes as a freshman before sitting out 10 in 2005 with an ankle injury. He also suffered a collarbone injury in 2006.

Devon Lyons will have one year of eligibility and is expected to challege for immediate playing time with the Mountaineers at the Z position.

Recruiting: Brothers reunite at West Virginia
Lyons, ex-Buckeye, to transfer after graduating in June
Thursday, April 03, 2008
By Chuck Finder, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Devon Lyons is heading for West Virginia, but not necessarily to continue a childhood competition and attempt to beat out his baby -- but taller -- brother, 6-foot-8 Wes.

"I'm coming there playing receiver," the elder, 6-4 Lyons said last night from Columbus, Ohio, where he is planning to graduate from Ohio State in June with a degree in consumer affairs. He will then officially transfer to West Virginia as a graduate student and regain his eligibility to play next fall.

He added that coach Bill Stewart and his staff also are talking about him playing in the secondary, which this former Post-Gazette Fab 22 selection also played at Woodland Hills High. "I'm keeping my options open. Really, it's wherever they need me, I guess."

Lyons, who played only three games last season and 21 in his career at Ohio State, applied to the NCAA in early January for a hardship case so he could transfer closer to home because of his father's heart condition. The NCAA granted him another year of eligibility under the same, since-revoked rule that allowed his cousin and fellow Woodland Hills alumnus Ryan Mundy to graduate from Michigan and transfer to West Virginia, where he started at free safety last fall.

"I'm super excited; a second opportunity has been given me. I'll try to make the most of it," Devon said.

Added Wes Jr., "We both have to go out there and do our thing. It's going to make us more competitive, and we were always competitive growing up."

MORGANTOWN - In April, the whispers began. A wide receiver was transferring to West Virginia University's football team from Ohio State.
One that could wind up starting at the Z position.
So far, though, 6-foot-4 Devon Lyons is struggling.
"He's got some ability,'' said WVU offensive coordinator Jeff Mullen. "But every other route is the wrong one. Every other block is the wrong one. It's understandable because he did not go through spring [drills]. Academically, he was up in the air. So he's in the fifth practice after a year off.''
Lyons, brother of 6-8 junior Wes, also a receiver, is striving to overcome the odds.
"I'm just excited to be here,'' said the senior. "I'm out there trying to work, trying to get in the best shape possible. I just want to help in any way I can.''
Devon Lyons had to win a hardship case to be eligible. He did so in April. Now he must overcome the physical obstacles.
"I sprained both my ankles pretty bad a few times,'' said the elder Lyons. "Plus, I broke my foot. And I broke my collarbone.
"I feel pretty good now though. At this point, everyone is pretty sore, pretty tight. But I feel close to 100 percent.''
"He can help us out this year,'' said Mountaineer QB Pat White. "He's a big target and a good player.''
Cont...
Devon Lyons was politically correct when he said WVU's receiving corps compares favorably with that of Ohio State. He was emphatic, however, with the following statement:
"Mountaineers work harder than any team in the country. You can quote me on that. We do a lot more running than we did at Ohio State. I just feel they want it more here.''

Wow! Totally uncalled for statement by a kid who didn't get burn regardless of injury or not. Kid just needs to focus on getting on the field at WVU and keep his mouth shut. Would it be blasphemous to use a quote from that school up north and say "Those who stay will be champions"? Man, hope I don't get my membership revoked.

Well of course Devon is doing more running at WVU...

"I sprained both my ankles pretty bad a few times,'' said the elder Lyons. "Plus, I broke my foot. And I broke my collarbone."

Now if he said the WVU training room was better, well that would carry some weight.

And to top that off... why would he say Ohio State is better than his current team at anything? Just about every single kid that finds themselves transferring from one school to another will say their new school is better than the previous... if they don't think that then why did they transfer to said school? Devon is showing he is committed to being the best player he can be for WVU, nothing else.

With that said I guarantee WVU fans are eating up his "running more than Ohio State" comment (just as any fanbase would).

So if we read between the lines, what he's really saying is that Justin Boren is lucky he chose to transfer to tOSU rather than WVU...

whew! Huge sigh of relief from JB. :tongue2:

No big deal imo...I still hope Devon has an impact for the Mountaineers & kicks some Big East butt.
