While I don't think Hurd was above him in the WR rotation, it can't hurt his chances.

The inability to get the ball to Bennett has contributed to a lack of success on third-down; the Bears have converted just 2 of 26 opportunities in their last two games.
"We haven't been able to find Earl the last couple weeks for whatever reason," said quarterback Caleb Hanie. "Teams have been keying on him; they know he's our third-down guy, he's our clutch guy, he's going to make tough catches and find ways to get open. We've just got to find ways to keep getting him open and we've got to find ways to get in a position where we can use him."

Throw the ball to Sanzenbacher - this is a no brainer. Hopefully Dane will see some quality minutes going forward. Another opportunity is knocking for the rookie WR...

In Bennett?s absence, Sanzenbacher, the undrafted free agent from Ohio State, stepped up. Nineteen of his 25 receptions came in the first seven games when, for a while, he was the team?s leading wide receiver. It?s not a condemnation of Sanzenbacher to say something is wrong with that. An undrafted college free agent should not step in and lead a team in receiving unless something is wrong with the receivers in place. The Bears will try to explain it had to do with the position Sanzenbacher and the offense directed balls his way. The bottom line is the team didn?t have veterans in position to step up, win one-on-one matchups and be productive on a consistent basis.

The flex factor right now is Dane Sanzenbacher, a nugget found in the pool of undrafted free agents. Sanzenbacher was active for every game and finished fourth in receptions with 27 and second in touchdown catches with three.

But with all the new kids coming in, playing time for Sanzenbacher may be difficult to find.

Difficult to find yes, but not many gave hime a chance last year end he emerged as a quality target for Cutler. Lovie knows what he has, Dane steps up his game and keeps his job in the rotation IMHO.

Dane had to many drops and Lovie values speed over anything..I see Dane with another team this fall. He's proven he has value bit not with the Bears.

Jeffery will be a wide out and not a slot receiver. I think Dane will need to work hard again to keep his job but I doubt if he will be competing with Jeffery. More like let's get a Roy Williams replacement.

Now if the Bears were to take Eric Page from Toledo, the competition at slot gets interesting. EP went to the Bucs UDFA. Sound familiar. Dane had a similar push last year.

There is no chance that he won't be invited to camp with somebody. Like you say, he has the intangibles - and the hands - to become a great possession
receiver in the NFL. Somebody will be getting a steal. I hope he goes to New England as a free agent.

Our version of Dane is Chaz Henry. Somebody will wind up letting him kick in camp, and once they let him in the door, he ain't leaving without a punter's job.

Just saw this post again.

Both of those guys are sticking. I would be shocked if Dane does not keep his job. The kind of effort he brings is not easily replaceable.

Dane Sanzenbacher has been impressive throughout OTAs. He is running very tight routes and has shown improved hands. He has the look of a seasoned player and has been a nightmare for defensive backs during 1-on-1 drills.

Chicago went out and acquired four new receivers this offseason, which essentially makes Sanzenbacher the odd man out. Yet the second-year wideout, who made the team as an undrafted rookie last season, isn?t ready to hand over his roster spot. Devin Thomas will need to show more than he has if he?s to supplant Sanzenbacher as the club?s sixth receiver.
