WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion)

Miller winning the Heisman would be awesome, but since he still has 2 more years in the program it's not as big of a deal right now. I could easily see him finishing 2nd or 3rd behind Geno Smith and some other player, but I don't think he's going to have the passing stats to win it.

Obviously he's also on pace to run for 1,600 yards, but I think that in this day and age people are going to favor passing yardage more than anything when it comes to QB play. Playing Purdue, PSU, and Illinois will help, but even against Indiana he didn't throw much more than 200 yards.

Doesn't really matter. If he can stay healthy, beat Mchgn and still put up 3,700+ total yards, I won't mind if he doesn't win the Heisman. He'll get plenty of recognition and be a favorite for next year.

Another poster made an analysis this offseason, but I don't remember who/what thread. Anyway, the point was made that 50ish TD's is the mark.

At this point, Braxton is on track four about 2100 yards passing and 19 TD's, and 1500 yards rushing with 15 TD's.

No way, in my opinion, Braxton gets the Heisman with 3600 yards and 34 TD's. He needs a couple 450 yard/5 TD performances to get that yardage up to about 4500 and scores around 45/50.

Finally, the big difference between the QB's that have put up crazy stats and not won in the past is that WVU is playing in either the toughest, or second toughest conference this season. Regardless of record, if he's able to get through the B12 season with 4700 yards and 52 TD's and 5 INT's, I think he's getting the award.

I think Braxton Miller is flashy and eye-popping when he runs the ball. When is that last time you saw a defender lined up right in front of him that made the tackle? :drunks:

I agree that Braxton is special when he is on the run, but so has been Vince Young, Troy Smith, Randle El, Pryor, D-Rob, Pat White, Tebow, Vick etc.

Yeah, he's putting up some big stats, but not quite enough to win the Heisman. He very well could have some huge games to end the season, but Hyde has started to take a lot of rushing TDs away from him and he just doesn't have the passing game right now to get enough TDs to make up for it. Next year though he'll be getting 25-35 TD passes and 10-15 rushing TDs and make a big run for it.

I think a better comparison would be Miller 2012 vs Smith 2005.

Smith's 2005 season was one that opened the worlds eyes to his abilities and cemented himself as a following season favorite - just like Miller this year. He wont win, but next year is his year. In 2013 we will have a solid RB corps with a proven #1 running back that will allow Miller to focus on throwing and curtail the wear on his legs.

I haven't looked into it but aren't Smith's numbers pretty low compared to more recent winners?

Yeah, he's right in saying that Miller is on pace to basically out TD and out gain Troy (and every other OSU QB), but the numbers needed to win a Heisman have gone way up the past few years.

Griffin - 4500+ yds, 48TDs
Newton - 4200+ yds, 50TDs
Ingram - 1900+ yds 21TDs
Bradford - 4700+ yds, 55TDs
Tebow - 4100+ yds, 55TDs

Other than Ingram, every other winner has had incredible stats recently. IF this were a down year I could see Miller winning it, but with Geno playing so well and on pace for 50-60 TDs, I just can't see him catching him unless he does something amazing over the last 12 games. We'll see. It will be interesting to see how WVY responds to the loss.

3500+ yards and 30+ TD's coupled with highlight reel plays every game...?
Then top off the fact he's probably the most dynamic and exciting player
in CFB.

Yes, stats are one thing - but they aren't everything.

True, they aren't everything. Miller's an amazing player and no doubt one of the best in America. I'm just trying to base his chances off what I think a lot voters will be thinking and in the past 5 years it seems that big stats (especially ~3000 yard passers) have won out.

Valid point, but don't you think Troy won because he was so dominant, and by extension the entire offense dominated? Whereas this seasons team has been anything but dominant, despite having Braxton go crazy.
