I thought the same. And likely not called for the same reason as the final play of the game. I think that both players in both plays were heading down. I know that it isn’t about intention, but my guess is that is why they both were let go.

I think they just plain missed the call. The defender led with the helmet and hit BV directly in the head. It is not intentional, but that’s exactly why they have this rule so that player don’t lead with the crown of the helmet. They even ejected Joey Bosa a few years ago for much less :-(

Gotta love the way Victor just makes miraculous plays in big games that are on the line. Not a TD at the level of the PSU game, but the athleticism he showed getting that first down was right there and it was a crucial play.
