BINJIMEN VICTOR WILL START IN PLACE OF AUSTIN MACK AT THE X RECEIVER POSITION
With Austin Mack out indefinitely after injuring his foot against Purdue, all eyes turn to Binjimen Victor as Ohio State's starting X receiver.
Victor has had an inconsistent Buckeye career thus far, struggling as a blocker and a route runner at times, but he's made his share of highlight plays this season, including his game-breaking touchdown late in the fourth quarter against Penn State.
“In terms of talent level, it's off the charts,” offensive coordinator Ryan Day said after his touchdown against Penn State. “That's one catch. Now, we've got to keep building from there.”
There's no longer time to build. Victor is now a starter in a key position in a pass-heavy offense, replacing a guy who played a team-high 346 snaps. The Buckeyes need him to be at his best consistently from here on out.
But more than that, they need depth to emerge.
With Mack as the starter, Victor was a more than solid second-team player, capable and experienced in playing with the first team for extended periods. After Mack's injury, that depth and the security of a proven guy at the No. 2 spot is no longer there.

he's gotta get stronger. The WR's in this offense are asked to do a lot of perimeter blocking. It has improved since last year but he has a ways to go in that department. Need some production out of him the next few weeks to become a reliable threat vs. MSU and scum down the stretch.

Football: Binjimen Victor steps up after Mack’s injury
Next man up.
It’s been the mentality of the defensive line, with the loss of junior All-American defensive end Nick Bosa for the rest of the season. The Ohio State secondary has needed the phrase as well, with redshirt junior cornerback Damon Arnette failing to make the trip to Purdue last Saturday because of injury.
Now, that phrase has made its way to the offense.
Junior wide receiver Austin Mack suffered a foot injury in the second half of Saturday’s 49-20 loss to Purdue. On his weekly radio show, head coach Urban Meyer called Mack’s ailment a “fluke injury,” saying it was a non-contact injury and he was “twisted wrong on the field.”
However, Meyer did give some hope, saying Mack could be back in time for postseason play.
But moving forward, it’s back to the “next man up” mentality.
In Mack’s absence, junior wide receiver Binjimen Victor will take the majority of his snaps in his place. Through eight games, Victor has 236 yards on 14 catches, recording three touchdown receptions.
Even though Ohio State has older depth at the wide receiver position, with redshirt senior wide receivers Johnnie Dixon and Terry McLaurin splitting time at the other receiver slot, offensive coordinator Ryan Day said its Victor’s time to shine.
“Ben’s got to step up and he’s now got to mature into a role where he’s going to be the starter over there,” Day said.

Man that was awesome. Need way more of plays like that from Victor next year. There is way more opportunity for him this year with Campbell, Dixon and McClaurin gone, and he needs to seize it. Victor is the #1 guy I am pulling for to take the next step, his talent is out of this world and it just needs to hit reality. Here is to hoping Fields has Victor on speed dial and he becomes a go-to receiver.
