Wow, mortality's a bitch!

The KSB

I just got out of the hospital ICU yesterday were I spent the entire Memorial
Day weekend. I found out on Friday morning that I had a blood disorder that was causing my body to destroy my platelets. A normal count for platelets is over 150,000. My count was below 4,000. I guess at that level your brain can spontaneously start to bleed and it is very difficult to stop it. Luckily it's not nearly as vital of an organ for me as it is for most others. However, I guess I still almost died from it. I’m doing much better now. My platelet count is rising. I'm out of the hospital taking mega doses of steroids, ready to start my baseball career. Thank God for Jesus and socialized medicine.

Glad you are doing ok... mortality certainly can be a bitch... a nice platelet count certainly can make life a little more stable.. those sponateous bleeders just suck.... I'm assuming you got a nice hefty dose of platelets along with the steroids.. watch out, you might want to do a hefty grocery run, those steroids can make you HUNGRY!!!!

Damn....glad you're ok bro. What kind of symptoms were you having?

It's weird you ask that. 'cause I never felt sick. I just had a bunch of little tiny dots on my feat and legs that looked like a rash. I thought I had poison ivy. I'm thinking no big deal, take an oatmeal bath and drive on. Well, after a few days I got a bad nose bleed that lasted about all day. I didn't think it was that big of a deal. When i woke up the next morning I had large ulcers in my mouth that wouldn't stop bleeding. I decided that was that and went into the emergency room that morning. Aparrently the ulcers were caused in part due to my dipping habit. So I can honestly say that tobacco saved my life.
