If it was $50 or more I would. I couldn't live with myself taking that large a sum of money from someone else.

If it was under $50, I'd probably keep it as it would most likely not be worth the trouble to whomever lost it.

i once found a pair of $300+ Revo sunglasses in a restaurant. i contacted the manager and gave him contact information in case someone came back looking for them. no one ever did. they were mine. however, another time, i simply turned in a pair of shades- i forget what kind, but they were designer and were VERY expensive. next thing i know i'm on the phone with the lady who left them. she said she'd be back for them as soon as possible. when she returned a few days later, they were gone. by turning them in, i placed my trust- and hers also- in someone who evidently could not be trusted. she was more than a little pissed off, and i as well.

the same would apply to finding a bag full of money. i'd contact someone and give contact info, but i would NOT turn it in. you can't trust someone else with a bag full of money- it would just 'disappear.'

It would depend on the situation...

if I was attending a ball game and a five dollar bill was on the ground, I'd pick it up, look around and walk if I didn't see anybody looking for it (if a person was looking for it I would give it to them)... not worth my time to find a place to drop it off, explain what happened, etc... I'd buy a beer and enjoy the "free" beer...

If there was a bag of money, I'd def. call the police and ask if somebody was looking for it. If no, then it would be mine if a week or two later the same response occurred... If yes, they'd need to explain what the bag looked like, and roughly how much money was in the bag (basically show me it really was yours, and you're not lying to me).

No. I don't trust anyone enough to turn it in to anyone. I've done something like LV said, with the sunglasses, before. In the case of a large sum of money. I would probably do something like Thump's idea. Make an anonymous call to the police, and check in again in a few weeks. If nothing's reported, then the money's mine, guilt free.

Make the anonymous call from a pay phone.

Unless I witness a person dropping/leaving/forgetting the money in question, it's mine.

Bingo. The only time I'd consider returning it would be if it were a large sum of money and I subsequently saw/heard/read something in the news about some charity or some other needy entity losing that money...then I'd probably turn it back in (minus a small "finder's fee"). Otherwise, fuck it, they lost it, I got it.
