Worst Coaches in Big-10 History?

I'm young and don't know much Big-10 history but have there ever been any worse coaches than John L. Smith? I can't imagine anyone worse than him. Even Ron Zook beat him with less talent and I didn't think that was possible.

Damn whipper-snappers

There are plenty that come to mind, though they were all bad in their own ways. Lee Corso at Indiana comes to mind immediately. Ray Nagel and Frank Lauterbur at Iowa were back-to-back doozies. John Coatta at Wisconsin might have been the worst coach of any sport, all-time. John "Don't Call me Alice" Jardin wasn't much better either. Don Morton was also awful, and I'll never forgive his ass for that 1987 loss either. Rick Venturi at NW also makes the list...he won 1 game in 3 years, with one impressive 0-0 tie against 1-8-2 Illinois in 1978 in what was probably the worst college game ever played.

Another bit of trivia from that 78 NW-Illinois barnburner...the Illinois coach is a name OSU fans will remember...none other than Gary Moeller, who went a stellar 6-24-3 at Illinois, against Venturi, who went 1-31-1.

I actually remember the SI college football preview for 1978, saying something like 'Is either team good enough to win this game?" They then played to that scoreless tie.
