I know where my favorite bars are, but I can't describe how to get thereHubbard;1823947; said:I want fun things for single guys to do, bars, places with girls, etc. BP always has some good advice. So let me have it
Avoid the bars on the strip (Kalakau Avenue), unless you have some serious money. Any beach will have girls, but like any beach on Earth, you will have to work the crowd. Have a wing-man or three, and be ready to abandon them so as to take care of business (or visa versa). First beach I ever picked up a girl was Ala Moana.
1.) Attend a lu'au. I found it kind of hokey at the time (in my teens), but it's something that can only be done right in Hawaii.
2.) If you've never done it, try body surfing. You will be there in the middle of the high surf season, so go check out the north shore (Windward from your resort), with the Banzai Pipeline (see Saw31's picture), which is where and when the surfing competition takes place. If you are a good swimmer, and want to get tossed around in the water, go in at Waimea Bay. It will give you a reverence for the power of Mother Nature without truly risking your life.
3.) Step into the Diamond Head crater. It's nothing spectacular, but at the same time, how many people do you know that can say, "I've been in a volcano in Hawaii.
4.) Try some shave. That's Hawaiian for snow cone. Except it's not made like we in the lower 48 do. Shave is not ground ice, it's, well, shaved. And it's available EVERYWHERE in Hawaii. The flavors stay in the ice instead of draining to the bottom of your cup. My favorite place to get shave was where Kamehameha Highway goes into Haleiwa: terrific after a day of surfing.
5.) The golf course there at Turtle Beach was pretty good many years ago, don't know how they could have changed it really. And while it was pretty good, it wasn't awesome. There are better courses here in the lower 48. Of course the scenery is much better there.
6.) If pineapple is in season, try it. Fresh from the dirt is different than fresh from Kroger's. They don't have a 12 month growing season, so it's hard to tell when it's ready (from here). We used to pull off the road in the middle of the night and grab some during harvest. If you like Kroger's pineapple, you will love it fresh.
7.) The resort itself is incredible! I believe it was built in the 1970's (I watched), but it has constantly been upgraded. Take full advantage of Turtle Beach!
...I'm jealous.
