Women’s Volleyball Moves On to the Sweet 16

The Women’s Buckeyes Volleyball Team treated a hometown crowd to a sweep of Robert Morris (19-13) in three sets – 25-13, 25-16, & 25-11 on Friday the 4th. They now advance in the NCAA Tournament and improve overall to 24-9.
How did the Buckeyes get into the Sweet 16:
The Buckeyes attacked .319 as a team, all while suffocating the Colonials into the red with a minus -.022 hitting efficiency. The Buckeyes dominated with 10 blocks and dug 44 balls to completely asphyxiate Robert Morris University.
Taylor Sandbothe’s six stuffs along with Valeria León’s 13 digs would display this dominance. Sandbothe and Audra Appold each distributed 11 kills and attacked northward of .450 for the night.
The numerical inequities were replicated on the scoreboard too. The Ohio State University out-scored the Colonials by a total of 35 points and nearly 12 points per set. The Buckeyes terminated 42 kills compared to just 18 from RMU.
Taylor Sandbothe levied her will from the start as she would accumulate 11 of her kills and six blocks in the first two frames. She sparked the OSU attack in the first set, slamming five kills on eight errorless swings. She would add four denials, which counted a pair of solo stuffs, to push Ohio State in a 25-13 winner. León dug up eight balls and the Buckeyes limited Robert Morris to a mere four kills.
Taylor Hughes gave the Buckeyes a big ace to open the 2nd set which gave the Buckeyes a 1-0 advantage. They would not yield to that advantage from this point on. Appold and Sandbothe combined for 11 kills, each attacking at a .625 clip. Four more Buckeye blocks kept the RMU attack at bay as Ohio State kept rolling at 25-16.
Back-to-back kills from Andrea Kacsits lowered Robert Morris into 3-0 hole to start the third frame. The Colonials valiantly struggled back to witness a 9-8 edge. A kill from Appold evened the score at 9-9 which opened the door to Hughes.
Final: Buckeyes 3-0 over Robert Morris University.
Saturday the 5th the Buckeyes handled American University (25-9) in straight sets (25-23, 25-11 & 25-17). The Ohio State University in their back-to-back sweeps to advance to the Sweet 16 in the Women’s volleyball NCAA Tournament by a combined margin of +59 is one of the most prosperous since 2010 when BYU carried on with an advantage of a margin = to + 60.
Ohio State travels to Lexington, Ky., next weekend for the Regional hosted by the University of Kentucky. Matches will ensue on Friday-Saturday (Dec. 11-12) inside Memorial Coliseum. A complete schedule is to be determine,
