Because the WNBA market is hot, and people see an opportunity to make some money? And everybody wants to have 7-10 home games with the Fever, to see Caitlyn play? Granted, the depth of players in WNBA is huge, but all these new franchises will dilute that talent. And only see one or two players coming out with anywhere the talent of CC. Seems like a high level of risk, kinda like bitcoin.....

no money is being made in the WNBA. Last year was their most popular yet and they still lost millions.

Um, that article was posted 2/16/25, and states that an announcement is expected no later than March. Of course, it doesn't say March of what year, so they still have an excellent chance of making the March deadline (unless the world ends first).
And lost millions last year? Make that tens of millions (approximately $40 million).
Yep, I definitely believe the WNBA players deserve equal pay to the NBA players. They probably deserve even more, with the tremendous surge in popularity. And while I couldn't easily find what the NBA profit was last year, I did find it generated revenue of $11.3 BILLION.

That is true, have heard repeatedly that WNBA lost $50 million on the season. But what with the salaries topping out around the $80k area, seems a bit hard to believe. Of course, we watched the CC show every chance, and most of the nose-bleed seats were occupied, and didn't watch many of the other games, so cannot draw any conclusions other than CC put butts in the seats. Will need a couple of other young superstars (yes, looking at you Paige), to continue the growth. TV certainly kicks in some big bucks, and will do more undoubtedly, IF the advertisers are there. Fans in the stands will make up a smaller increment of total income, more in the 'cover the expenses' category. Anyway, WNBA has the opportunity to be in the growth industry category. Hope it continues. PS, in an aside, daughter's HS team went to Las Vegas for a WBB tournament, and the HC asked me which one was my daughter (am 6'6"). We were playing in women's gym, and she took me over to see men's gym. About ten times more seating (even had a Tark parking place out front). She sighed, and said maybe one day the women can fill up that arena.

Thought we needed an WNBA thread, as launching into the women's pro season. First 'counting game' for WNBA last night, and of course watching the Fever, with Caitlyn and of course Kelsey Mitchell. Great game, saw a buffed out Caitlyn score a triple-double in her first outing, and kick the Sky (and Reese's) a** by 20+. Fever added some depth and strength, and will withhold judgement until they play some contenders, NY and LA, and LV. Caught it on ABC, and see that Prime, and Ion (?) will be carrying some games. Anyone else know which streaming channels are showing the games? Thiery in Atlanta, and Jacy in Connecticut, so want to catch those guys as well. Go Bucks!

I think Clark has a lunatic fringe of her fans that she probably wishes she didn't have, who see her as the great white hope. That being said, I can't stand Reese's antics and love that Caitlyn is going to live rent-free in her head for the rest of her career. The only reason Reese got the rebound was because she two-handed shoved Boston under the basket, uncalled, and then totally flopped to get a flagrant on Clark. I really hope the W rescinds that upgrade and tells Reese to knock it off or she can go play in Mexico with Chennedy Carter.

Fuck both of them. Reese is a hack, but Clark is a fucking flopper. Here are just a couple against OSU.

She broke the NCAA scoring record off a free throw from the tech called on McMahon in that second clip. Fucking embarrassing.

Great player, but also a real fucking asshole on the court. Grade-A whiny bitch every time she didn't get a call in college and she got ALL of the calls in college.
