I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed on campus at tOSU many years ago. It was done with novocain, and was cheap because it was at the dental school. I guess I was a guinea pig.
Anyway, it hurt for a few hours after the novocain wore off. I didn't get the precsription for a pain reliever filled. I went back to my apartment, ate a hot dog, and cranked up Pink Floyd on the headphones. I actually fell asleep for a couple hours in the afternoon, despite the pain and the high decibel music. By nighttime I was fine.
My 17 year-old daughter just had 4 wisdom teeth removed. Also with local painkiller only, 3 were impacted. We didn't fill the pain relief scrip for her. She took Advil when the novocain was wearing off and again before bed. Take the first pill when the novocain has your mouth still partially numb. They also had an ice wrap that went around her chin to the top of her head to reduce swelling, which she wore for a few hours on a 20-minute on, 20-minute off to re-freeze schedule. Also had to replace the bloody gauze pads in her mouth 3 or 4 times in the first few hours.
She didn't play hockey, but never whined or complained. She was fine the next day.
