I get that you want to position yourself well to get recruits, so you basically have to either handicap the future or extend the coach early. That being said, they're gonna owe him a huge chunk of change if they let him go early - and he hasn't done much to live up the lofty salary he got in the first place.

Fans won't like it but they'll give him a chance to bounce back next season. They'd look ridiculous giving him $20 million to leave.
