Wisconsin 78, #12 Ohio State 73 (Final)

Big day tomorrow and will miss game. I think that we must control the tempo of this game. They like to slow you down and they have difficulty matching our speed. I also think defensive intensity, especially on the perimeter, will largely determine the winner, as others have said.

I like our chances.

Preview by Matt Lewis of BadgerNation.com.

Couple of interesting things from the preview:

1. Matt seems a little bitter that OSU is the "it" team in the Big 10 right now.

2. Since the start of Big 10 play, OSU is shooting better from behind the arc (.437) than Wisconsin is from the entire floor (.433).

3. The Buckeyes are now the most productive offense in the Big 10 (1.13 points per possession).

4. Matt picks Wisconsin to win 77-72.

My take: Wisconsin has had relative success stopping teams from the outside, especially smaller guards. Dee Brown was 6-18 and 1-5 from 3-point range against Wisconsin the last time out. Daniel Horton was 2-10 and 0-4 from 3-point range two weeks ago in Ann Arbor. Robert Vaden was 4-15 and 1-4 from 3-point range in Madison last week. Shannon Brown was 9-23 and 3-9 from 3-point range when the Badgers beat the Spartans in Madison in early January. Vincent Grier was 6-18 and 1-3 from 3-point range against the Badgers about a month ago. What has seperated the wins from the losses is the supporting cast, especially someone to compliment the outside game. Look at some of Wisconsin's recent games where they were successful stopping a team's primary outside threat, as mentioned above:

Michigan State (W): Paul Davis - 2 points
Minnesota (W): Dan Coleman/Spencer Tollackson - 7 points
Penn State (W): Jamelle Cornley - 6 points
Michigan (L): Courtney Sims/Chris Hunter - 33 points
Illinois (L): James Augustine/Brian Randle - 19 points
Purdue (L): Matt Kiefer/Marcus Whtie - 34 points
Indiana (W): Marco Killingsworth - 14 points (fouled out...well below his average)

Obviously not letting Tucker get loose is a big part of the gameplan tonight. I think a combination of Sullinger, Lewis and Harris should be enough to keep him just as frustrated as he was back in Columbus earlier this season. But getting Dials on track and keeping him out of foul trouble is huge. OSU is so dangerous because any night someone can light you up. One night it's Lewis putting up 26 against Penn State. Thenit's Sullinger putting up 24 against FAMU. Then Foster comes out with 25 against Minnesota. Next it's Butler with 20 against Michigan and 22 against Illinois. Tonight is the night Dials needs to step-up. Illinois had 8 days to prepare for OSU's outside shooting...and look what happened to them. Bo Ryan will try not to let that happen to his team, extending his defense early. That should open some huge lanes for TD to work with.

GO BUCKS!!!

It's been six years since Ohio State climbed this high in the rankings. About the same amount of time has passed since the team last won at the Kohl Center.

The 12th-ranked Buckeyes try to extend one four-game streak and end another when they visit Wisconsin in a Big Ten matchup on Wednesday.
Hot outside shooting, led by Jamar Butler and Je'Kel Foster, sparked Ohio State (18-3, 7-3) to two wins last week over ranked teams and earned the program its highest spot in the AP poll since being No. 8 entering the 2000 NCAA tournament.
Ohio State hit 13-of-23 from 3-point range in a 94-85 win at then-No. 22 Michigan on Thursday, and made 15-of-24 to beat then-No. 10 Illinois 69-53 on Saturday.

"We still have six great challenges ahead and a lot of work to do," Buckeyes coach Thad Matta said. "It is important that the team understands that.

We've beaten two (Top 25) teams this week and that's tremendous for us."

Butler scored a combined 42 points and was 7-for-8 from beyond the arc in those victories, and was named Big Ten player of the week.

"I'm just playing within our offense and taking the open shots," said Butler, a sophomore averaging 9.8 points this season.

During Ohio State's current four-game winning streak, Foster has made 21 of 27 3-pointers (77.8 percent) while averaging 19.5 points.

Senior forward Terence Dials continues to be a solid complement to Ohio State's long-range shooters, averaging 14.1 points and 7.5 rebounds. He had 19 points and 16 boards on Saturday.

The Buckeyes are making a conference-best 42.8 percent from 3-point range, and may need to maintain their hot shooting to defeat a Wisconsin team holding opponents to 41 percent from the field.

Ohio State has lost four straight at the Kohl Center, dating to Jan. 13, 2000. However, the Buckeyes already beat the Badgers this season in Columbus, winning 77-67 on Jan. 18 to end Wisconsin's five-game winning streak in the series.

The Badgers (17-7, 7-4), trying to climb back into the Top 25, are looking to extend their winning streak to three games.

Kammron Taylor and Brian Butch combined for 47 points to lead Wisconsin to its second consecutive win on Saturday, 82-62 over Penn State.

Butch, a sophomore whose 23 points tied his career high, saw extended playing time against the Nittany Lions due to leading scorer Alando Tucker getting into foul trouble.

Tucker had only nine points against Penn State, but leads the team with 18.9 per game.

Wisconsin has a 106-13 record at the Kohl Center since its opening in 1998. The Badgers, though, have split their last four home games, including a shocking 62-55 loss to North Dakota State on Jan. 21. Of their last 12 games at the Kohl Center against ranked teams, the Badgers' only two losses have both been to Illinois.
