Wireless Keyboard & Router problem

On occasion, I like to bring my monitor out to the living room to do some computer work there. My wireless mouse works fairly well (it's a new MX Revolution), but my old wireless keyboard does not (cordless comfort duo). I bought the latter probably 5 years ago.

My assumption is that it is conflicting with the router...

1) Is there any way to tweak the router to work on a different channel that wouldn't conflict with the keyboard?

2) Would a newer keyboard have a better chance of working despite the 2.4 ghz router? There is a Logitech Dinovo keyboard for $20 after rebate, which is similar to the cost of a long usb extension cord for a keyboard.

1. Yes you can change which channel the router is broadcasting on via the setup/options (it's typically web based & the default address is usually - http://192.168.1.1/ ...check the manufacturer's info for details).

2. The router is probably not the problem IMO. AFAIK Logitech's wireless keyboards/mice broadcast at 27Mhz which is very unlikely to have interference issues with a 2.4Ghz WiFi signal.

3. How are you getting the signal to your monitor? lol

2. Hmm, maybe it's just not very good at 12-15 feet. It works a little better if it has a clean line of sight. I'm tempted to just get the dinovo keyboard for just a little more than an extension cable and hopefully it works better.

3. I've got a 15' HDMI cable I bought for like $5-10 on Amazon. The office door is 5 feet from the end of my couch, so it's a little more manageable..

I'm pretty sure the age of your wireless keyboard is the main problem. The older ones needed a direct line of sight to work as they were supposed too.
Got my Logitech diNovo keyboard today, and this solved the problem. Typing perfectly on the couch 20 feet from the office computer in the adjoining room. Pretty good deal after rebate (and Logitech is very trustworthy at sending rebate checks): Logitech diNovo Keyboard for Notebooks $20 after $30 MIR
