Will you pull for Notre Dame or Michigan?

I'm firmly in Cinci's camp here. A Michigan win is good/great for the B10, and by extension good for us. Plus, we are guaranteed a shot at them in November. A ND win belittles the B10, and increases their chances of jumping us in the polls down the road.

I hope we get ND in January. I think we could gain 700 on 'em this season.

I don't think it's absurd to point out that OSU repuation, academic and Athletic is boosted by the company it keeps. Fight with history all you want, but Michigan has a fine reputation in both categories.

Who is fighting with history? I have never said scUM doesn't have a fine reputation, I said I want to see it end...in sports.

What is less well known is that the academic resources of the Big Ten are shared. It's a huge incentive in faculty recruitment, research grants and bringing in strong grad and undergrad students. Ohio State benefits not one iota from Notre Dame's academic strengths.

I never said I wanted scUM's academics to implode, only their football program. I'm not sure why you feel the need to bring this into the discussion.

Further, the higher any Big 10 team is ranked, the more lucrative their bowl bid and the more money generated for the programs of ALL Big 10 schools. The higher Notre Dame is ranked, the more lucrative their bowl game the more money they take in and share with exactly no one. And did you notice who wore the home jerseys in the Fiesta Bowl and which team walked out with the biggest check?

This argument is bogus in regards to scUM. All 11 teams will never make Bowl Games, so my wish to see scUM fall to Indiana-status while everyone else in the conference moves up is irrelevant to everything you state here. Once again, I want the Big 10 to succeed, just not scUM in athletics.

OK. I guess we could end the season playing Penn State or Iowa... Make Michigan homecoming... Man, what did they do to you? Run off with your girlfriend? Step on your blue suede shoes?

Simple, I grew up in a scUM-dominant culture during the Cooper era.

Who said this, Barry Goldwater? OSU does not live in a vacuum. Without the Big 10 we could be Miami or Ohio U. The conference has grown in athletic and academic status because of its total strength. Ohio State has benefitted, is benefitting, will benefit from the Big 10.

Again, you are taking my comments to the absurd, which make them something very different than what I stated.

By extension of your argument The Game will remain The Game despite the collapse of Michigan... There's a reason why Indiana is not The Game... and I have no interest in a major rivalry that becomes one sided... like the 90s...and maybe that's the source of our differing opinions. If I had been a student at OSU during the 90s the Michigan game would be much more difficult to put into perspective.

So, can I assume you will be cheering for scUM this year or next in order to maintain the integrity of the rivalry? After all, you make it sound like the rivalry is more important than OSU winning. (okay, I'm being absurd now, but at least I recongize this!)

While I agree with cinci on why we should root for dUMB, I must point out that yes, ND shared the Fiesta Bowl money with no one. But OSU got their Fiesta money PLUS a share of the other conference members' bowl money. ND did not.

Sooo...part of scUM's Alamo check went to us

OK, Let me put it this way: I don't give a damn for the whole state of Michigan, but I hate fuckin' Notre Dame. Does that clarify things?

And there is part of the issue between us. Until Weis came along, I never really had a problem with ND. Didn't like them, but I never hated them. Even now, my hatred for the progam has everything to do with Weis, not the school or their program.

Well then, you're making progress.

cinci, I agree with almost all of what you said, but I can live with the 1-sided rivalry for a while. The 4-1 ratio works for me, and I'd like 8-2 over the next decade. And I have to admit to preferring 10-0 to 6-4.

Even with the 4-1 ratio continuing, tOSU would need 30 years to catch scUM in the overall head-to-head (+3 every 5 years = +18 in 30). Until tOSU moves past them in that category, I don't think I'll worry about the decline of scUM's football program.

I have always hated scUM and ND. I never really hated ND as much as scUM until Weis came along, but he has made me hate every aspect of ND. When they were nothing, I didn't mind if they thought they were better than everyone else, but now that they have won a few, people are actually starting to believe their bullshit about being better than everyone else.

I will never hate scUM as much as ND.

I despise TSUN but I want to see Notre Dame lose. I also want TSUN to arrive at the Shoe undefeated. It's in our interest in the national championship race that Notre Dame lose. It's good for our SOS that the Big Ten teams beat Notre Dame.

Just look at these wankers? I want TSUN to roll into the Shoe believing they have a chance at the National Championship. I want The Game to be for all the marbles every year and then I want to break their fucking hearts. :banger:

Although I admit they are a high class successful group, with their little "Oh how I hate Ohio State" window stickers!
