1. Will he get 5,000?

No. In fact, he'll be lucky to crack 4,500. This is not to slam Pitt. Getting 4,500 means he needs almost 2,800 yards (1,400 per year). If we didn't have Chris Wells I'd say Pitt could get 1,400 a year, but I think CW will take away just enough carries to make it too tough to get the 1,400. I think Pitt will crack 4,000 yards, though.

2. Will he leave early?

No. Check out the lack of respect by the media this pre-season. Even if he has another great season this year, most will continue to think he's small and not that fast. He wouldn't be projected high enough in the draft to come out early.

What he said.

Don't forget that he would have to average 126 yards per game if he played in EVERY GAME. Counting last year, that would be 3 straight seasons of injury-free football at tailback. Won't happen.

While I'm one who thinks Pitt won't get enough carries to reach 5,000 yards, a lot of folks are saying he'll "split" carries with Beanie, implying it'll be at or near 50/50. No way...no even close. I think the Pitt/CWells carry ratio for this season will be 80/20 early in the season and may dip to 70/30 near the end, but no way do I think Pitt will get less than 60% of the carries this year.

I don't care who is backing up Pittman, he won't get to 5k. 1644 yards would be the 4th best season all time here, and he'd have to do that two straight years. In essence, matching Griffin's 1973-74 seasons. Even if you give Pittman the same amount of carries (243), he'd need to average over a yard more to match Griffin's numbers. The Wells combo will get at least the percentage in 2006 that the backups had last year.

I do think he'll get to 3769, which would put him second all time.
