Why SEC Isn't As Great In Football As You Think - Chuck Thompson

I have to say, this is one of the most level-headed and well-reasoned discussion regarding the SEC I have seen.

WTF is wrong with you people. :shake:

That's not true! I heard McNeil was a UT fan? He still hangs around these parts.

What does it say about your team if you consider UT to not be dragging down the conference?

P.S. whatever happened to the pig fan that was babbling about Petrino owning the SEC for the next decade?

Haven't heard much from him since Miles mopped the floor with Bobby last thanksgiving.

You talking to me?

I don't recall talking about Petrino owning the SEC for the next decade, but I suppose it's possible I did.

And I'm pretty sure that I was around all through the bowl season.

Anyway, I'm asking the question, because I'm too lazy to look it up, but I wonder if the records in question, especially the bowl records are affected by lower level SEC teams in bowl games against upper level, other league opponents.

The SEC generally goes 7-8 deep sending teams to bowls, and I would guess that a pretty good chunk of them are playing higher ranked opponents in those bowls.

Other conferences send about the same number. At the end of the day the match ups are spread out fairly. It's not like everyone else is saying the SEC has to play up to play them in a bowl game. The Big Ten and the SEC send two teams to the BCS more often than the other conferences FWIW.

There was one in Nebraska's that had me laughing

Missouri is so lame it only has one search term associated with it.

There was a thread here that looked at the comparative ranking of teams in bowl games. It was B1Gcentric but still might be useful.
