Why is this news?: Ohio State could put Joey Bosa at defensive tackle, Greg Schiano already in recruiting battle

With the recent suspension of Ohio State defensive tackle Adolphus Washington, there have been some questions as to what the Buckeyes might do to replace the All-American tackle for the Fiesta Bowl against Notre Dame. Though the depth behind Washington isn't at all bad with players such as Tommy Schutt, Michael Hill, and Joel Hale, Ohio State may opt to slide over Joey Bosa from defensive end into the tackle position. That would allow Sam Hubbard to see more action against the Fighting Irish as well. Hubbard has filled in extremely well when being rotated in, and the Fiesta Bowl could end up being a proving ground that Hubbard is a force to be reckoned with as a starter next season.
When you consider the outside edges of the defensive line include Hubbard and Tyquan Lewis, it's not hard to imagine the coaching staff perhaps sliding Bosa over, just to keep the defensive line performing at a high rate. If anyone were able to replace Washington, you would be hard-pressed to find someone more physically capable than Bosa. The junior defensive end is projected as a top pick in the upcoming NFL draft, so it's not really important to him that he fills the stat sheet. At the end of the day, Bosa wants the win over Notre Dame, and has said he's willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish that in his final game with Ohio State.
"He called me yesterday (Sunday), and he said as soon as the dead period is over, him and Larry Johnson are going to come to the house and he himself is going to do the academic presentation."

It didn't take very long for Greg Schiano to get acclimated with Ohio State's urgency on the recruiting side of things. The newly hired defensive coordinator has already been pushing for the top player in the country from the class of 2016, five-star defensive end Rashan Gary. Competing with the top teams in the country for the prized recruit, Schiano already has a battle starting with Rutgers and new head coach Chris Ash. Schiano has also already given a call to Gary's mother, Jennifer Coney, and assured that the Buckeyes are more than interested. With the recruiting dead period still intact, Schiano can't contact Gary directly but it won't be long until he'll give his presentation.
Academics seem to be a key area for Gary and his mother, and Schiano made it a point to show how seriously he took academics while he was the head coach at Rutgers a few years ago. With National Signing Day just around the corner, Ohio State will have to be at their best on the recruiting trail if they hope to nab the top-rated player in the country.
"Ohio State dominated The Associated Press All-Big Ten team released Tuesday, with seven players on the first team and running back Ezekiel Elliott voted the offensive player of the year."

After finishing the season with a 42-13 thumping over rival Michigan, Ohio State players were recognized for plenty of awards and All-American statuses. The latest batch came from the Associated Press' All-Big Ten team, where seven Buckeyes were listed on the first team and a handful more on the second team. Making the first-team was Ezekiel Elliott, Taylor Decker, Pat Elflein, Joey Bosa, Adolphus Washington, Joshua Perry, and Vonn Bell. Second-team members included linebackers Raekwon McMillan and Darron Lee, and punter Cameron Johnston.
Ezekiel Elliott also was selected as the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year after rushing for a Big Ten-leading 139.3 yards a game and 19 touchdowns, which were the most in the conference and second nationally. He has run for 100 yards in 11 games this season, including a 274-yard outing against Indiana. Elliott was also the heart of the Ohio State offense that often times needed to lean heavily on the junior running back. Should he go through with opting to head to the NFL, he'll finish as the second-leading rusher in the school's history behind Archie Griffin.
"That said, I think Beck is back next year. Meyer hasn't fired an assistant coach here, so my belief is the only move would be to help usher Beck into another job."

One of the questions that many might have been thinking in the back of their mind following the end of the regular season was what Ohio State would do with Tim Beck. After a season with plenty of disappointing offensive performances, even against sub-par opponents, it was clear that the Buckeyes were a different team without former offensive coordinator Tom Herman. Beck took over the playcalling duties along with Ed Warriner, and until the Michigan game, it didn't seem to be working. While the struggles weren't on the playcalling alone, it did play a factor. Doug Lesmerises of Northeast Ohio Media Group took a shot at answering the question of what Ohio State will do with Beck, and in short, believes the Buckeyes will keep Beck on for now.
To expand a bit, Lesmerises points to what Ohio State did with former defensive coordinator Everett Withers in 2013. When the Buckeyes had a passing defense that left a lot to be desired under Withers, the assistant coach wasn't forced out, but did take a head coaching job at James Madison. While on the surface that doesn't look too odd, the key was that Withers was also taking a hefty pay cut by taking the job. Now Beck could face a similar situation in the near future, but at this point it's hard to say one way or the other. Perhaps the Buckeyes will give Beck another chance.
