Here's a German beer from 1040, and it may be much older than that:

Weihenstephan. The beer producer with the longest tradition and the oldest brewery in the world.
The Bayerische Staatsbrauerei (Bavarian State Brewery) Weihenstephan is indeed the oldest place in the world where beer is still being brewed. A document proves that in the year 1040 the Benedictine monastery of Weihenstephan under Abbot Arnold was granted the right to brew and draw beer in the town of Freising. As a matter of fact, the brewing site is substantially older than the deed itself indicates. It has been proved that a hop garden already existed near the monastery Weihenstephan in the year 768 and its owner had to pay tithes to the monastery including hops. The Weihenstephan brewers are therefore quite certain "that these hops were brewed in the monastery founded by Saint Korbinian in the year 725 and that our present day hopped beer saw its historical birth in this monastery."

Not Surprised... but it still doesn't have much to do with the Stroh's can. :wink2:

Oh and Mistri... Yeah, it was kind of funny... but probably not funny enough to bring up again. :wink2:

Just supplying a historical reference that fits in nicely with the title of the thread. All this talk is making me want to return to Bavaria!

If it warms too quick, it wasn't cold enough to begin with. Beer temp should be about 33 degrees out of the fridge. Since most people don't like their fridge temp this low, unless you like icebergs in your milk cartons,
Since most modern refrigerators don't get very cold, I keep all of my beer out in my old garage refrigerator.

All of our water that's in that fridge is frozen solid but the beer is so cold it makes your teeth hurt!

Can we improve the ignore feature so that folks you want to ignore don't even show up in other posters' quotes?

Here's the 1775 reference-- Brewing since 1775-- In Germany. :wink2: (Man, I went to that Brewery before it closed... so I was confused a bit)

Great find AKAK.

About Lowenbrau, that stuff is awesome.
It used to be sold here in the U.S. I believe, and was rather cheap.
Paninis on campus actually has it, whenever im there for happy hour I like to get one.
I also have an awesome Lowenbrau beer mirror hanging in my living, right next to about 3 stroh mirrors :) .

The Lowenbrau name was licensed to Miller Brewing for a while, and what they brewed wasn't up to the German original. Here's more than most people want to know about Lowenbrau:

Some form of Lowenbrau has been brewed in Munich since 1383, though the name “Lowenbrau” did not appear in the Munich brewers’ registry until 1746.

By 1863 it was the largest brewery in Munich.

Flash forward to the year 1975, when Lowenbrau signed a licensing contract with the Miller Brewing Co. to produce Lowenbrau for the American market.

All of a sudden Miller had a premium beer that could go up against Anheuser-Busch’s Michelob and Pabst’s Andecker.

The problem was that Miller apparently did not believe American tastes were sophisticated enough to appreciate a real German beer, so it wrung the character out of traditional Lowenbrau for American consumption.

The deal with Miller finally ended in October 1999, and Labatt Breweries of Canada, a subsidiary of Belgian beer giant Interbrew, took over the task of brewing the beer for the U.S. market. But those horrible days are over, for now the Lowenbrau we have is a true import from the brewery in Germany.

Does anyone know where you can just buy the stuff?
I always look for it when I am in a little beer carryout or something, but never see it.
Talking about this makes me want to go to Paninis and just get one.....
