Why do OSU fans dispise the Big East?

HoltWVU75

Buckeye fan for one saturday in late November.
Seriously, why do you guys absolutely hate everything about the Big East? We dont act like we're the best, we dont talk like we're the SEC, Pac 10, or any other top conference. Big East has some pretty good teams and some mediocre teams, yet, OSU fans think the Big East is on the level of the old Southern Conference. What is it that drives you buckeyes crazy about the BE? Most everyone on thie board hates WVU and everything about WVU, but thats fine. Im just wondering why you guys hate the BE so much.

Nobody ever gives the BE a pot to piss in, and i think its BS. Again, we dont go around talking like the best, saying everyone should treat us like the best, but yet everyone hates us.

Please feel free to chime in, and I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

This is not my thread.

My issues are with the Pac-10 (Football-wise, especially the Howard Jones and John McKay eras, it has been USC and the nine dwarves) and SEC (Allegedly the deepest conference- way too much mediocrity)

My issue is not with the Big East. My issue is with the media. The Big Ten gets hammered and called 'slow'. The Big East gets love and called 'surprising.'

You wouldn't know it watching too much ESPN, but the Big Ten is actually better than the Big East. There's a reason why teams like Rutgers, South Florida, Connecticut and Shitcinnati are seemingly becoming good programs. It's because they play in the Big East. If they walked a mile in the Big Ten, they'd be battered and bruised.

That's not necessarily an indictment of West Virginia. That's a good ball team. But if Ohio State's schedule gets ripped by the media, where's the criticism for the 'Neers schedule?

Probably for the same reason SEC fans hate us. They feel our best teams have an easier road to the BCS and BCS title game than their teams do. They feel there is no way our best teams could handle the week in week out grind of their far tougher leauge.

WVU and L'ville starting in the preseason top 5 adds to it.

WVU losing a game to USF and still staying in the top 10 is another.

in my opinion, and mine only, theres WVU in the BE and thats it. I dont think that conference can hold its own weight against other conferences. and if that conference wants respect, they need to play tougher out of conference schedules....i think usf played the toughest and that was auburn...and now look where usf is now.....all conferences hate the other conferences cuz they think theyres is the best, but im not a fan of the sec...man...ive never seen a conference so high on themselves. all i hear is we cant compete and the sec is too fast, then after the NC last year, it never stops!!

Oh10, our schedule gets plenty of flack.....I agree withthe ESPN part. THey pick a conferece or team, and run with them and piss on everybody else.

When people say "surprisingly Big East", I think people are shocked that the Big East isnt DivIII after all like portrayed in the media a few years back.

Cincy and Uconn are teams im Not going to talk up big, altho Cincy does have a good D and good coach. Uconn sucked last year, and the year before, and have been lucky this year to be good. NExt year, they will probably suck again.

Rutgers and USF I will give credit to. Schiano is finally getting some of those good NJ players to stay in state. USF is able to recruit really good since they are in Florida. Would these two have the same sucess int he Big 10? Maybe, maybe not.

I'm going to assume you are a diehard WVU fan.

If so, I have something to say:

The fact that Steve Slaton got passed over by Mike Hart as a finalist for the Doak Walker Award is a freaking joke!

I'll take the electric speedster over the big-mouth any day!

Hrm... I don't dislike the big east so much as I think the conference in general isn't very defensive. They have great offensive teams, but seem to live by the motto of "the best defense is a good offense." There's always some big east team that's going to win it all, then they run into a team with a half-assed defense and they get shut down.

What about the Big 12?

They have a ton of potent offensive teams with bad defense.

I don't think Buckeye fans despise the Big East.

Many Buckeye fans may think that the Big East doesn't belongs in the same frame as the major conferences.

The press certainly figures into what you are observing. By the time WV has played its last game, its SOS (as measured by the Sagarin's) will be below that of Ohio State. One wouldn't get that from press reports.

So, I think the issue is resentment of press reports that seem to want to inflate the Big East, and Buckeye fans don't seem to agree.

The out of conference schedule is being built up. As you all know, you cant schedule good teams with a phone call and get them on your schedule the next year. It takes time. In 2008,2009, we play Auburn and Colorado(no biggie, but still expanding to big 12) In 2010,2011 we play Michigan State and in 2012-13 we play florida state. Not the elite of the elite, but still better than ECU and other scrubs. Our governor forced us to play MArshall, so that took out the possibilty to get VT back on our schedule.

Cincy just signed to play Oklahoma over the next couple years. Not sure if they will play OSU again or not.

Pitt plays VT, Notre Dame, Iowa, NC State, Miami in the coming years (not elite teams, but other BCS teams.

USF has Miami, Kansas, Florida, Mich State, NC State all signed for coming years.

Rutgers doesnt have as many teams scheduled...but they have Notre Dame over the next several years.

Syracuse has Notre Dame, Penn State, VT, Boston College, USC Trojans,

Uconn has Nc State, Iowa State, Iowa in years to come.

Louisville plays Notre Dame, Oregon State, Georgia Tech, Georgia

Now, some of these teams I mentioned arent top dawgs, but theyre BCS schools which are better than non BCS teams, obviously.

nice comments so far. Im glad were not in a pissing match, which is good. As for defenses....Hey, were #4 overrall defense, thats pretty good considering our D couldnt stop a high school last year.

That's good and the Big-East will gain some respect the more it beats teams like those but it takes time. Until then, most will remain skeptical.
