I am sure this same situation has happened in the US as well. How do any of us know who we are talking to online? That girl y'all were talking to last night could have been your sister or even your Grandma.

The difference between these French folks and Springer guests is that the Springer date their Moms on purpose. Rupert Holmes sang about a personal ad attracting his original significant other in Escape (the pina colada song (1979)). Granted it wasn't his Mom but she could have easily answered the ad. In the movie Must Love Dogs, Diane Lane ends up meeting her Dad through a personal ad thinking he was someone she wanted to date.
